Nancy Pelosi says she was victim of 'setup' in hair salon mask dispute
Source: The Guardian
Nancy Pelosi has claimed to have been set up, after she was photographed in a San Francisco hair salon without a face covering, breaking the citys coronavirus prevention rules.
I take responsibility for trusting the word of the neighborhood salon that Ive been to many times, the House speaker said on Wednesday afternoon, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle. It was a setup, and I take responsibility for falling for a setup.
Salons in San Francisco have been closed during the coronavirus pandemic, with limited outdoor operations beginning only on Tuesday.
Security camera footage obtained by Fox News showed Pelosi, the House speaker and the most powerful Democrat in Washington, walking through the e Salon SF with a mask around her neck. The footage was filmed on Monday.

It just goes to show that you need to know the political leanings of neighborhood businesses you patronize. It sickens me that I have to boycott the nearby espresso shop/restaurant where I was an almost-daily customer for years because, during the initial wave of protests following George Floyd's murder, they recruited a bunch of their clientele with pickup trucks and AR-15's to "guard" the place because they claimed to have heard rumors that they were being "targeted by Antifa" because "we are a community-loving, law-enforcement-supporting small business." F*** them!

(11,679 posts)(CNN)While President Donald Trump is threatening American democracy, fueling violence and strife, and continuing to make the US an outlier in coronavirus cases and deaths, he and his GOP minions want us to focus on Nancy Pelosi's hair.
Yes, the Speaker of the House did something selfish and stupid: She got her hair done inside a San Francisco salon, in violation of that city's coronavirus rules, and walked, maskless (according to security footage obtained by Fox News) from one room to another apparently after getting her hair washed. (The Speaker's staff insist she wore her mask at all other times during her hair styling and had gone inside as a result of incorrect information from someone at the salon about what was allowed by brand-new city regulations.)

(11,488 posts)First off, we have FAR bigger issues to worry about right now than a single individual in a hair salon.
Secondly, it's the right wing that has been crying about 'it's their right' not to wear a mask or to keep doing business during the pandemic. Now all of a sudden when a prominent Democrat gets conned into this situation it's somehow a huge deal. BULLSHIT!!!!
Donald tRump has scammed businesses, employees, and contractors out of millions of dollars. He has sexually assaulted women, mocked the disabled, committed adultery untold times, and GOPers have a problem with THIS ?!?!?!?
FUCK THEM, and I hope that place goes out of business because of this.

Rep Pelosi's stylist was not available, so the stylist referred her to someone else.
The referral stylist rents a chair at the salon in question. S/He doesn't own it.
Over the past weekend, it was all over local news that salons in the area could offer indoor services as of 8/31. Only three counties were still on outdoor services only as of 8/31. Unfortunately, it seems like the stylist didn't know that SF County was one of those three counties.
The stylist does not have a key to the salon, so s/he called the owner to ask for access on 8/31.
The owner, instead of telling the stylist that SF County still required that salons refrain from indoor services as of 8/31, asked the stylist who the client was.
(I'm guessing if it were the likes of Danielle Steel, or Marissa Mayer, the Monday appt would have been just fine with a nod and a wink from the owner.)
And since the owner is a Trumpette, she decided that her personal reputation in San Francisco didn't mean as much to her as a chance to be Fox Famous For Five Hot Minutes.
In closing, I'm betting the salon owner is probably getting ready to close her SF salon, and figures that her despicable actions will help her business where she actually lives - Fresno.

The stylist who did House Speaker Nancy Pelosis hair says the appointment was, in fact, a setup by the San Francisco salon owner, given the womans political leanings.
Jonathan DeNardo released a lengthy statement defending Pelosi and claiming Erica Kious, who owns eSalon, authorized the Monday hair appointment in a phone call two days prior.
(snip)
DeNardo, whos worked at eSalon for six years, also claimed Kious has been operating her business illegally during the pandemic since at least April.
He said the owner can be seen in pictures and on video doing clients hair, ignoring social distancing guidelines, and not wearing protective equipment (masks), as recently as a few days prior to Speaker Pelosis arrival at eSalon.
Whats more, Ms. Kious has also been actively encouraging and almost forcing stylists who operate at eSalon to violate such orders for her own financial benefit in the form of receiving lease payments, DeNardo added.
He concluded, The fact that Ms. Kious is now objecting to Speaker Pelosis presence at eSalon, and from a simple surface-level review of Ms. Kious political leanings, it appears Ms. Kious is furthering a set-up of Speaker Pelosi for her own vain aspirations. Mr. DeNardos name has now been dragged through the mud for simply following Ms. Kious recommendations.

(21,034 posts)It may have been a setup, but not wearing her mask was her own fault. I wear a mask when I am out as should everyone. I can't defend it. I think this would have been best left with a mia culpa and a promise to do better through leading by example.

Well, you're providing plenty by agreeing with them.
She's a human being. She's not perfect all the goddam time. She trusted a salon she went to for years. The rules keep changing of what's partly opened and what's not for all the different types of businesses and exactly what the restrictions are where I live all the time. She has a hell of a lot on her plate.

... In security video Fox News said it obtained ( https://video.foxnews.com/v/6186686290001#sp=show-clips ), Pelosi is seen walking through the eSalon in San Francisco on Monday afternoon with wet hair and with a mask at her neck instead of over her mouth and nose. Her stylist, DeNardo, is seen following her wearing a black face mask. It was unclear from the video whether she had the mask on her face during the rest of the appointment.

It is too easy to criticize. Your comment is hair splitting. Nancy nearly ALWAYS wears a stylish mask. She made it a statement piece. Brilliant! (17 posts)California's wiretapping law is a "two-party consent" law. California makes it a crime to record or eavesdrop on any confidential communication, including a private conversation or telephone call, without the consent of all parties to the conversation. See Cal. ... See California v. Gibbons, 215 Cal.

(25,135 posts)never get sick or stumble over a word or make the smallest mistake. And giving reasons for things, like Russian intervention in our elections, is "making excuses."
This is a rule for some reason. How many times in the past have I seen the same conversation: someone repeats misinformation and "concern" about a Democrat, someone posts links with the facts debunking it, the reply is an angry demand for why you think that person is perfect.
It's always something.

(10,864 posts)or "Making excuses digs the hole deeper."
(In other words, calling our Democratic House Speaker a liar without evidence, but using a careful word choice to not quite cross the boundary into post-removed-ville). And or a fucking idiot but not quite using those words (I actually juried a post that supported an OP titled, "How Can Nancy Be So Goddam Stupid". (The OP was shortly thereafter Post Removed).
And the stylist confirms Pelosi's version, but some DUers side with the Trumpist owner for some reason
And then there's the she shoulda she shoulda she shoulda posts.
JPR has nothing on us when it comes to tearing our Democratic general election candidates and leaders apart. One told me she had her mask off "the whole time", when all we have is a 5 second video with her hair wet walking back from where she had her hair washed, and the masked stylist walking more than 6 feet behind her.
