Biden condemns violence on all sides after deadly Portland shooting

Source: Axios

Democratic nominee Joe Biden issued a statement unequivocally condemning violence on all sides after a man was fatally shot Saturday night during a clash between supporters of President Trump and anti-racism protesters.

Why it matters: As Biden prepares to address civil unrest this week, he is looking to set a marker for Trump and put the burden on him to speak to all sides on an issue that is roiling America and the presidential campaign.

The Trump campaign has sought to paint Biden as unwilling to condemn the violent protests that have unfolded in places like Portland and Kenosha, despite the former vice president having done so several times.

In the wake of a flood of tweets and retweets by Trump that defended aggressive actions by his supporters in Portland, Biden demanded that the president help "lower the temperature."

1. I'm starting to think what Trump says is no longer LBN-worthy, we should have Biden here only

He just became the president with this condemnation of violence against a Trump supporter, you would never see Trump saying that about an antifa or Black Lives Matter protester.

What's the point of even printing Trump's latest spewing ... it's the same racist crap he's been spewing for years, the exact same.

I turn away from all stories that begin with Trump says or White House says.

Fuck 'em. I'm done! Not worthy of the paper it's printed on. Give me something a democrat does or says instead. That's news!

until every poll is closed and every vote is counted. This complacency and "we got this" attitude I'm seeing here is just like 2016, and is making me very nervous.

12. It's not "we got this" on my mind, it's now an issue of legitimacy.

Trump is no longer worthy of being on LBN, we might as well use WorldNetDaily or Breitbart as sources for news.

2. It would be nice to think that all the people out there protesting are all peaceful but...no.

There are criminals out there who couldn't care less about the protests, who are there to burn and vandalize and assault people.

There are people who went there to peaceably protest and have got caught up in the mob mentality.

There are people out there who are terrorists. They go out there fully intending and to act out violently for political reasons.

There are no "violent protesters" When you start committing crimes you have abandoned protest and are rioting and looting.

5. Now how difficult is this? Violence bad, racism bad, civil rights good. No brainer for most.

A difference between Democrats and Republicans. When a Democratic Party supporter shoots someone (Steve Scalise, for example), every Democrat I know condemns it.

When a Right Winger shoots someone, I hear many Republicans say "Hell, yeah. About time. F**ker had it coming!"

Biden Says Trump Fanning ‘Unacceptable’ Portland Violence

(Bloomberg) -- Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said violence in Portland, Oregon, that left a supporter of Donald Trump dead is “unacceptable” and urged the president to stop “fanning the flames of hate and division in our society.”

“I condemn violence of every kind by anyone, whether on the left or the right. And I challenge Donald Trump to do the same,” Biden said in a statement. “We must not become a country at war with ourselves.”

A man linked to a right-wing group called Patriot Prayer that supports Trump was shot and killed in Portland Saturday night after hundreds of Trump supporters who arrived in the city by convoy clashed with those protesting the shootings of Black men and women by police.

The statement is the strongest language yet by Biden, with about two months left to the November general election. The nation has been wracked by racial justice protests since the May 25 death of George Floyd, a Black man who died while in custody of the Minneapolis police.

Most of the protests have been peaceful, but there have been instances of property damage and clashes with law enforcement.

Chad Wolf, Trump’s nominee to head the Department of Homeland Security, on Sunday blamed local officials in Portland and other cities for fostering an “environment of lawlessness and chaos” and wouldn’t rule out sending in federal troops, even if local officials don’t want them.

Call on repealing the tax cut for the rich and use part of it to increase the amount of police officers to reduce crime from all the cuts under Trump's administration which has resulted in an increase in crime all over the country. Not only that but increase pay and training for police. IMO, condemning violence is not enough, you need to hit hard on that tax cut for the rich.
