Thousands remain evacuated from Southern California wildfire

Source: AP

BANNING, Calif. (AP) — Evacuation orders remained in place early Monday for thousands of people after a wildfire in mountains east of Los Angeles exploded in size and forced crews to battle flames in triple-digit heat.

The Apple Fire in Riverside County consumed more than 31 square miles (about 80 square kilometers) of dry brush and timber, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

As of Monday morning, it was 5% contained. The cause was under investigation.

Officials allowed flames to run up the side of Mount San Gorgonio, an 11,000-foot (3,350-meter) peak, because it wasn’t safe to let crews work in such steep, rugged terrain, said Lisa Cox, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Forest Service.

in US didn't have to be where it is today - trump's incompetence caused this situation. I remind you, he did nothing but deny the virus was real for 70 days - from end of January thru mid March.

Fire season has just begun. Will continue until the first rain. Big fires like this excite the "fire bugs". I expect to see a spate of arson blazes. Couple it with all the unemployed folk seeking work on fire crews and we have the potential for real trouble. Maybe Trump can hire a few thousand folk to "rake the forest" before things get out of hand.
