President Trump said Monday that hes looking at steps he can take with executive orders on issues like stopping evictions, since he claimed Democrats arent serious about negotiating a new coronavirus relief bill.
A lot of people are going to be evicted but Im going to stop it because Ill do it myself if I have to, Trump told reporters at an event at the White House. I have a lot of powers with respect to executive orders and were looking at that very seriously right now.
He didnt specify what any of those powers were, though.
Trumps comments came after The Washington Post reported that his administration was eyeing steps they could take unilaterally if no deal is reached on Capitol Hill. Its unclear exactly what those might be, but the discussions are a reflection of officials increasingly pessimistic outlook for the talks with congressional Democrats.

(12,265 posts)McConnell is Dr. No, the Democrats have put a number of options on the table and they keep saying no because there isn't enough pork for the rich people in there. They also want to cut medicare and social security they keep trying to tack it onto these bills. Read a copy of the most recent bill the democrats in the house put out, it was pretty near perfect.

(3,427 posts)Democrats are in favor of extending enhanced unemployment benefits and the moratorium on evictions, which this article says Trump also supports (first I've heard of that). It's only the Republicans who are opposed to those things, but this excerpt gives the impression that Democrats in Congress are the main obstacle.

(33,643 posts)He might kinda want the $600 to be extended because that huge loss of extra consumer money from the economy if not extended would hurt it badly right before the election.
But the money is friggin' joke AFA him doing it of his own accord. This isn't a few billion $ to build a wall he can steal from the military, justifying it under a national defence umbrella.
He could maybe extend the extension by executive order, but you watch ... he won't. He's not going hurt fellow real estate investors like that.
This is BS posturing, pure and simple.

(3,495 posts)Most people that will be evicted will be voting Democratic. A change of address happening this close to an election will likely lead to disenfranchisement of lots of democratic leaning voters not counting whats going on with the USPS.
Buckle up folks, its going to be rough riding into November
