Tropical Storm Isaias brought heavy rain and strong winds as it brushed past Florida on its way up the east coast toward the Carolinas on Sunday, per the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
The latest: Isaias was 55 miles east of Cape Canaveral with winds increasing to 70 mph, the NHC said in an 8 p.m. update. Storm surge warnings were in effect for North and South Carolina. A tropical storm watch was in effect for the mid-Atlantic coast.
Two to four inches of rain fell from Miami to Palm Beach and "a few hundred customers" lost power as Isaias skirted Florida's east coast Sunday, per the Miami Herald, which notes little damage had been reported by Sunday evening.

(4,651 posts)the meteorologist seemed to be rooting for the storm to strengthen. He emphasized all the reasons how it could strengthen and minimized how it could stay the same or even weaken although there's no sign it will do either at this time. If it had become a hurricane I'm sure he would have done a backflip. I guess it's all about eyeballs.
Those of us in the path must be vigilant but cautiously optimistic that this will not be a major event and if it is we'll be ready for it...
