On Thursday, the top operative for Senate Republicans' campaign arm appeared on a private Zoom call organized by GOP operatives to discuss the party's efforts to stave off a Democratic takeover.
During the presentation, National Republican Senatorial Committee executive director Kevin McLaughlin warned that if hardline conservative Kris Kobach wins next Tuesday's Kansas Senate primary, it could doom the GOP Senate majority and perhaps even hurt President Donald Trump in a state that hasn't voted Democratic since 1964.
The Senate majority runs through Kansas, McLaughlin warned, according to people familiar with the call.

(34,057 posts)but I am just not sure what will happen. Marshall has a lot of support. There is a lot of activity going on in that party right now. Lots of editorials, most not supporting Kobach but that happened during his run for Governor too and he managed to get on their ticket. I do think Trump will carry Kansas but not by as much as before (god I hope not) and that would be good for Kobach if they think they are supporting Trump. Crazy, scary and crazy. In the general I think if Kobach is their candidate they will not put him there. Bollier was a Republican until after Trump, that also might give her more of their votes. She has out earned and out run all of them but then we have to get through the primary.
I am not as involved as I used to be so what I say is all just from paying a lot of attention. That attention tells me that nobody has any real idea what will happen. I am sorry to say that I feel it is very possible we send you all Kobach to deal with along with Trump. I hope I am wrong.

(34,057 posts)I live here. Believe me we work as hard as we can and we have made a lot of progress over the last 15 years or so, even with Brownback pushing back almost everything we managed. I do not know where you live but I find the kind of response you just gave me usually comes from a very blue state where getting up and going to the poll is about all that has to be done by most people criticizing what happens here.
There was no pessimism there just a reality check. Yes we can do it but it is hard as hell to move people here. It is a snails pace then boom, we vote in a Democratic governor who happens to be a woman. So cut the crap blaming someone who is trying to tell you what it looks like from the Capital city at this point. Like it or not it is what has been going on here.
