Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) confirmed Thursday that she has been interviewed by Joe Bidens team to be the Democratic Partys vice presidential nominee.
I have been interviewed, yes, Im on Team Biden, Duckworth said during a Washington Post Live interview with reporter Bob Costa. But it really doesnt matter what position I play as long as we get Joe Biden elected.
The senator was referring to talks shes had with the panel that Biden convened to vet his positional picks, said a person familiar with the selection process who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to speak publicly about the process.
Duckworth said the interview process has been positive. She also made it clear she has been in frequent touch with Biden, saying shes always loved interacting with vice president Biden.

Hard to read the tea leaves here - someone in Biden's inner circle clearly wanted this information out there. She'd be an excellent choice. Can't wait for the big announcement, what, next week?

(15,707 posts)And they wouldnt be starting the week before they plan to announce.
Theyve been vetting Duckworth, Warren, Harris, Bass, Demings, and Rice since at least mid-June.
There will be final/follow up interviews in the coming week once the vetting is complete and Biden nears a decision.
I recommend the podcast Thats the Ticket by crooked media, featuring discussions among staffers who managed the VP vetting for Obama, Kerry and Gore.

(9,908 posts)be pleased with just anybody he chooses, but she is my first choice. She's basically my only choice of all the people considered front runners. Not that anybody asked me. It won't affect my vote.

(24,368 posts)But Tammy Duckworth would be great. We could make Kamala Attorney General and make them wish she was VP.

(68,800 posts)We should not empty the Senate...we need them all to start enacting policy...no delays.

(111,456 posts)I'm prepared for the fact that it might be someone few of us have heard of.
However, I'd be delighted with Sen. Duckworth and most of the others who have been mentioned as contenders.

(43,490 posts)rules her out in my estimation. She would be an excellent choice, but we have other possibilities with more law enforcement experience and more economic experience.
Who's name hasn't surfaced lately, and hasn't surfaced in the media? Sen. Warren.

(4,555 posts)Email from Biden last night originating thru my Email subscription to Warren Democrats.
He said he would be having an important phone conference tonight with Elizabeth Warren and we supporters about how we will win in November.
It is sometimes hard to tell if the wemeant he and Liz, or basically ALL of us including we supporters as well.
But, I found it intriguing so close to his plans to announce his VP.

(68,800 posts)she will not help...not with the red states or purple states we may turn blue. She will be portrayed as a socialist ....and that is not helpful. Also she is almost as old as Biden. Tammy Duckworth and Val Demmings are the best choices IMHO. We also can't afford to even temporarily lose a Senator.
