I don't want a delay': Trump rows back on delaying election but not on mail-in ballots

WASHINGTON President Donald Trump on Thursday walked back the notion of delaying this year's election, arguing that he was attempting with a tweet hours earlier to draw attention to potential problems with the widespread use of mail-in ballots.
"Do I want to see a date change? No," Trump said. "But I don't want to see a crooked election."
Trump drew bipartisan derision Thursday for questioning in a tweet whether the November presidential election should be delayed over concerns about voting during the pandemic. Congressional Republicans bluntly rejected the idea and Democrats accused the president of attempting to sow doubt if the election doesn't go his way.
"What will happen in November it's a mess," Trump told reporters at the White House on Thursday. "I want a result much, more more than you...I don't want to be waiting around around for weeks and months."

(32,640 posts)You don't think it's possible to make informed judgements on the validity of a journalistic source, using critical thinking?
If you reject all media, how do you stay informed?
Just_Vote_Dem
(2,801 posts)In general, I don't see enough reality in a lot of mass media.
And I never said I "reject" all media.

(32,640 posts)So, what source of news or information do you trust?
Just_Vote_Dem
(2,801 posts)I just think that there are many issues that don't get reported on because they're too interested in "car crash" kind of reporting. I'm happy, for example, seeing reporting on the protests; that's important. I'd like to see more reporting on the effects of what Trump does rather than dissecting every silly announcement he makes. I think it's because I remember the Tea Party getting so much coverage for a rally with 30 people when there was little coverage of civil rights type rallies that engaged far more people and were more important. That sticks in my craw to this day.

(32,640 posts)Have you changed your mind since you wrote that?
Again: What sources of information do you trust? Where do you get your information?
BTW - I see many posts on DU ranting that the MSM isn't covering this??? They should be on him like a bad suit! That's their job!

(6,925 posts)... but didn't he say: "Do I want to see a date change? No," Trump said.
And: "But I don't want to see a crooked election." (Like anyone else than him and his boss would do it...).
Just_Vote_Dem
(2,801 posts)That was just to take the focus off the terrible economic news, unfortunately it seems to have worked somewhat

(11,885 posts)As long as he's tweeting and talking , more voters will run away from him and the GOP. He thinks having attention on himself will win it for him , but it isn't working , it's backfiring.

(48,984 posts)It's all about framing by repetition. The more he says "crooked election" the more people believe it, even when they can't say why.
The attempt is to get the public to accept the premise without questioning it.
Word association reinforcement by repetition.

(27,552 posts)Speaker of the House will be chosen that day. If it's Pelosi as I hope, she would assume the presidency on January 20 in this scenario. The Secret Service would then forcibly eject Trump from the White House if it comes to that.

It was a virus update, and he spend more time talking about his comments on voting than on the virus.
