DHS Under Boss: We're Taking This National
Source: Talking Points Memo
When asked about calls for an investigation into DHS police tactics in Portland, Oregon, Acting Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Ken Cuccinelli tells NPR not only are they not going to stop but they want to take the tactics nationwide.
Well, we are we welcome the more investigations, the better. With as much lawbreaking is going on, were seeking to prosecute as many people as are breaking the law as it relates to federal jurisdiction. Thats not always happening with respect to local jurisdiction and local offenses. But, you know, this is a posture we intend to continue not just in Portland but in any of the facilities that were responsible for around the country.

(296 posts)KENNY, NO ONE has been arrested in Portland. They even grabbed up some poor shmuck minding his own business WALKING HOME. He said there was no paperwork in the incident No arrest or release documentation. Not charged with any crime as a protestor or a looter. Big mistake. How is DHS going to defend themselves in court if they aren't actually arresting anyone who is allegedly committing a crime. Explain that to a judge when the judge asks DHS why did they pick this person off the street? If they were committing a crime, why did DHS let them go. BUT to me this looks like a DRY RUN for when Trump VOIDS the election claiming VOTER FRAUD. The Admin. with Trump's well placed cronies, is preparing to arrest all the PROTESTORS THEN! It won't be DHS/Custom agents patrolling the streets, it will be Erik Prince's hired mercenaries! BE PREPARED. This is just the beginning. Trump will try anything to stay in the White House.

Are they going to stay behind the scene and help police investigate the many murders KC is experiencing this year and last.? Or are they really coming here to do what they are doing in Portland and round up protestors. I find it interesting that they didnt alert the Mayor of KC that they were going to do this. Gov. When I was a kid protesting in the 60's and 70's it was known not to touch or even walk on the sidewalk of a post office or federal building. They would come out like hornets and get ya. Always lost in court. Judge: were you on federal property?
No I was on sidewalk in front of post office.
Judge: you were on federal property then. Did you have permission to be on federal property?
No I was just walking on the sidewalk.
Judge: Then you did not have permission.
And away it went.

Get'em mad enough and people are going to get tired of being pushed around by police and are going to start to use THEIR "2nd Amendment remedies" on police, ICE, or whatever. (What? You thought those were only for white people?) You keep pushing and increasing force "in any of the facilities that were responsible for around the country" and it is bound to happen.
You can see it beginning already in Los Angeles, New York and, in early July, at Stone Mountain, Georgia. And when that happens, that's when the anarchy will begin and Putin will fall over laughing.
So, thanks Cuccinelli. And the entirety of the GOP. And "the base" that elected them. And you too, NRA! This is all on YOU!

(7,134 posts)I wasn't clear: I meant shooting the police and other law "enforcement".
I got an email in late June from people I know on the Reich, bitching and screaming about a group of black men in Los Angeles organizing and training WELL-ARMED black men to fight back after the murder of black men around the country and the government not doing much about it; you know, to use their "2nd Amendment remedies". The people who sent me that email didn't think "2nd Amendment remedies" included these men.
Two weeks ago, on the 4th of July, nearly a THOUSAND well-armed black panthers (part of NFAC, the Not Fucking Around Coalition) marched in protest at Stone Mountain Georgia, a popular gathering site for the KKK, daring anyone to stop them. (Fun side fact: They got the the Stone Mountain police to escort them as they exercised their "constitutional right to carry." ) Here is a photo:
Look at the weapons they are carrying. These are not happy campers. The Reich-wing has demanded complete access to guns anywhere and everywhere as a constitutional right to defend themselves against government. Well, now they have it.
(Looking at that photo do you think Ted Cruz would say they are just exercising their "Second Amendment (rights that are) the ultimate check against governmental tyranny"?)
My argument is after decades of the Reich-wing set saying guns are for the people to defend themselves against government, something is going to give.

I don't understand how these thugs can come into neighborhoods and just pluck people off the streets w/o a clear cause. This is unconstitutional probably despite rump's emergency declaration too. These thugs under Barr tried to get something passed where they could hold someone w/o charging them immediately w/ anything and the House said NO (under Pelosi).
Barr is acting like he's got such approval and is arresting anyone / everyone w/o cause or reason, still.

The Justice Department has quietly asked Congress for the ability to ask chief judges to detain people indefinitely without trial during emergencies part of a push for new powers that comes as the novel coronavirus spreads throughout the United States.
Documents reviewed by POLITICO detail the departments requests to lawmakers on a host of topics, including the statute of limitations, asylum and the way court hearings are conducted. POLITICO also reviewed and previously reported on documents seeking the authority to extend deadlines on merger reviews and prosecutions.

Judge Says Ken Cuccinelli Was Appointed Unlawfully To Top Immigration Post
March 1, 2020
A federal judge ruled on Sunday that Ken Cuccinelli's appointment to a top immigration position in the Trump administration was unlawful, saying several directives issued by Cuccinelli to tighten asylum rules must now be "set aside."
In a 55-page ruling, U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss said the administration violated the Federal Vacancies Reform Act when it tapped Cuccinelli in June 2019 to lead U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the agency within the Department of Homeland Security that oversees legal immigration into the country.
The ruling invalidated a pair of directives issued by Cuccinelli, an immigration hard-liner and the former attorney general of Virginia, that introduced new restrictions on the asylum process.
The first directive shortened the length of time asylum-seekers have to prepare for "credible fear interviews" with officials from 48 or 72 hours to "one full calendar day from the date of arrival at a detention facility." With the second, Cuccinelli prohibited asylum officers from granting extensions to this new policy "except in the most extraordinary of circumstances. On the merits, the Court concludes that Cuccinelli was not lawfully appointed to serve as acting Director and that, as a result, he lacked authority to issue the reduced-time-to-consult and prohibition-on-extensions directives," Moss wrote in his ruling.
