Ghislaine Maxwell pleads not guilty to federal sex trafficking charges and is denied bail

Source: CNN

She is charged with enticement and conspiracy to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, transportation and conspiracy to transport minors with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, and two counts of perjury, according to the federal indictment unsealed on the day of her arrest.

Regarding potential bail conditions, the judge said: "The court finds by a preponderance of the evidence that no combination could reasonably assure her presence in court."

She added, "The risks are simply too great."

"The risks are simply too great." Too great???

This makes almost no sense given responses on another thread. She's not hiding nor evading and besides, Jeffrey Epstein is dead, what is going to rise to the level of importance that her bail be denied?

What could possibly be so damning that either her life would be in danger or that she would be a flight risk? What kind of information would she possibly possess that's so different from any other child sex trafficker out there that her bail be denied? Hmmm.

The reason she's a "flight risk" is that she's an air pilot. If she's near ANY plane, she's gone. ancianita Jul 2020 #17

... safer in jail? I am surprised at the plea... like most, I assume she participated. Of course, she gets a defense, tho... I agree with the Judge and feel she could get out of the country if she's released on bail. I know they have monitors, but very wealthy people have advantages we can't even imagine.

The prosecution has the job of proving beyond a reasonable doubt that she is guilty of the charges. I assume she will have a lawyer or several lawyers who try to convince at least one juror that she is innocent of each charge. It does look pretty damning to me.

Of course she pled not guilty.

This is a complex case to prove, and much of it is (arguably) barred by the statute of limitations.

That said, I expect her to plea and, as part of the plea, name names.

Given who is the USAG, the names she selects will all be Democrats, probably damn prominent ones, as that is who he will care about.

The trial is set for July 2021. If Biden wins, Barr will not be AG and many others will be out too. Maybe she hopes for a Trump pardon after he loses.

She has a huge incentive to flee before trial and she has so many connections and so much access to money that the judge believes she will be able to flee.

Like it or not, the best way for prosecutors to bring down all of Epstein's pals is for them to cut a deal with Maxwell in exchange for her cooperation and testimony. I'd just as soon see her get a lower sentence if the whole sordid cabal was brought down via her testimony.

She was Epstein's pilot for years, had more flight hours and experience than many commercial airline pilots.

"Flight risk" in this case is that literal.
