Missouri summer camp reports 82 coronavirus cases

A popular Missouri summer camp has reported 82 cases of coronavirus, the Stone County Health Department (SCHD) announced Monday. Organizers of the Christian Kanakuk Kamp in Lampe, Mo., in the state's southwest region near the Arkansas border decided to shut down last week after a number of suspected cases were detected.
On July 2, health officials reported that at least 41 campers and staff had tested positive.
By Monday, that number doubled to 82.
"The decision to close has resulted in all campers, counselors and staff to return to their homes," SCHD said on Facebook. "SCHD will be working closely with Kanakuk Kamps to identify exposed individuals and quarantine those individuals, as necessary."
Health officials said the campers were from 10 different states and different parts of Missouri. The now-closed camp welcomed children ages 618 through seven different programs for up to four weeks of "over-the-top fun and activities, deep friendships, biblical discipleship, and focused sports training."

(53,968 posts)They're calculating that if schools fully re-open in September parents can go back to work and thus get the economy humming, or at least appear to be humming, as the death figures, which are a lagging indicator, won't start being reported before Nov. 3 and trump may squeak by with an election win.
As with everything else they've figured during this pandemic, that is of course wrong as by September, with cases and deaths spiking all over the nation, what parents and teachers are going to be ok with just sending their kids to school with no plan from the federal government?
And then course the nearly 200,000 deaths there will be by then that will be staring everybody in the face.

(8,945 posts)These people should be quarantined on site.
Those that tested positive in one location,
and those who haven't in another location.
14 days later, if they still don't have it, they can go home!
I'll bet that they probably didn't wear masks.

(13,583 posts)there were no masks or social distancing. I definitely think they should have been kept there so they didnt take it home wherever that may be.
