Muslim woman files discrimination charge after she says a Target Starbucks barista wrote 'ISIS' on h

Source: CNN

By Alaa Elassar,

(CNN)A Muslim woman has filed a discrimination charge against Target after she said she received a drink from a Target Starbucks barista with "ISIS" written on the cup instead of her name at one of the retail corporation's Minnesota locations.

Aishah, who asked to be identified only by her first name out of fear for her safety, is being represented by the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN), which filed a charge to the Minnesota Department of Human Rights on Monday.

The 19-year-old, who wears a hijab, a headscarf worn by Muslim women, told CNN she felt singled out for her religious beliefs after seeing "ISIS" -- the acronym for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, a terrorist group known for its radical beliefs and violence -- on her cup. It's unclear if ISIS was written in all caps on the cup.

"The moment I saw it, I was overwhelmed with a lot of emotions," Aishah said. "I felt belittled and so humiliated. This is a word that shatters the Muslim reputation all over the world. I cannot believe that in this day and age, something like this can be considered acceptable. It isn't okay."

Hope they fire the idiot that pulled that stunt!

My neighbor opened one of those bigger envelopes that has the fake car key in it that supposedly starts a car at a dealership. I suppose they come from some mass mail outfit? Anyway, the "N" word was spelled out in the glue they use to seal the top of the envelope.

He found out where it came from and raised all kinds of hell.

Idiots everywhere!

not screening or educating their front line Employees as to whom their Customers are or whom their new Customers are going to be.

Hope the Target Manager on Duty takes a hit as well as the Starbucks Coffee Bar Manager, assistant manger and the Employee who was that stupid to make that comment.

and asked her several times. It could be that the employee was just kind of ignorant and didn't mean harm.

This isn't the first time this happened. Someone wrote ISIS on a Muslim's man cup though that story was excused because his name was Aziz (even though Aziz and ISIS are two different sounding words).

It isn't hard for me to believe there are Islamaphobic bigots in the US. Sometimes they are even in the Democratic Party.

Oh look another misspelling defense upthread. This board has a long way to go. I hope she wins her lawsuit.

Or just one of those "well, as far as I can tell..." stories?

(there's not really a whole lot of wiggle room between the two)

..or maybe everyone should just start getting coffee at independent coffee shops.

Lots of younger people can't even remember the terrorist movement Isis. or think it is the ancient goddess name. Isis is actually used as a female name.
