Mary Kay Letourneau, teacher jailed for raping student, dies

Mary Kay Letourneau, a teacher who married her former sixth-grade student after she was convicted of raping him in a case that drew international headlines, has died. She was 58.

Her lawyer David Gehrke told multiple news outlets Letourneau died Tuesday of cancer. He did not immediately return an email from The Associated Press.

All adults now. And they still have their fathers. I'm sure they are still grieving but they youngest is 21. The youngest child from her first marriage is about 2 years younger than Villi and I think I read he is 36.

7. It was a sad, tawdry story all along.

I watched it from Seattle, from the perspective of someone who saw similar things happen at my High School in Ohio. 2 teachers involved with students, albeit much older than Fualaau, and the male principal forced out (after I'd graduated) for (widely rumored) serial sexual abuse of pubescent boys, including my classmates.

None of them were convicted of crimes, none went to jail. I graduated in 1981.

May her children find peace. May Vili Fualaau find peace.
