FDA commissioner refuses to defend Trump claim that 99% of Covid-19 cases are 'harmless'
Source: CNN
The commissioner of the US Food and Drug Administration on Sunday declined to defend President Donald Trump's unfounded claim that 99% of coronavirus cases are "totally harmless" and repeatedly refused to say whether Trump's remark is true or false.
"I'm not going to get into who is right and who is wrong," Dr. Stephen Hahn, a member of the White House coronavirus task force, told CNN's Dana Bash on "State of the Union."
During his remarks Saturday at the White House Independence Day event, Trump claimed without evidence that 99% of coronavirus cases "are totally harmless."
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 35% of cases are asymptomatic, but even people with mild or no symptoms can spread the virus to others.

(296 posts)Then you put your co-workers at risk, FORCING them to quarantine. You put your employers at FINANCIAL RISK and ECONOMIC LOSS in the process. Without paychecks, employees have to juggle their finances. There is a WIDE HARMFUL RIPPLE AFFECT. There is HARM IN EVERYTHING related to COVID19!

equals 4.56% death rate not counting those who are seriously ill.

(518 posts)It is possible that Trump heard that 99% of the Covid cases are not fatal; this sort of statistic is plausible. But this is a long way from harmless since about twenty times the number of Covid deaths are cases that had to go to hospital, often for weeks and often requiring extensive care and very debilitating outcomes.

(518 posts)The number of reported Covid "cases" are almost certainly the cases serious enough to be sent to hospital, and this omits what may be a considerable number of mild cases that were asymptomatic or recuperated at home. I doubt that these uncounted mild cases are enough to justify Trump's statistic but they may be enough to say that 99% of all the cases do not die of the virus.

(296 posts)HOW THE HELL did we end up here with millions more cases, an economic depression, millions unemployed and 130,000 dead? We started with five HARMLESS cases?
