FDA leader Stephen Hahn stops short of Trump promises on vaccine timing

Source: ABC News

Despite President Donald Trump's claims Saturday that a COVID-19 "solution" would likely be available "long before the end of the year," a member of the White House coronavirus task force refused Sunday to offer a timeline for the final development of a vaccine.

"I can't predict when a vaccine will be available," Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn said on ABC's "This Week" Sunday, adding, "Yes, we are seeing unprecedented speed for the development of a vaccine. But as you know … we issued guidance this past week about vaccine development, because we want to be very clear: our solemn promise to the American people is that we will make a decision based upon the data and science on a vaccine, with respect to the safety and effectiveness of that vaccine."

"When those data become available, and I hope those data are available sooner rather than later, we will make that judgment based upon those data and that science," he continued.

"We are unleashing our nation's scientific brilliance and we'll likely have a therapeutic and/or vaccine solution long before the end of the year," Trump said, after earlier touting the nation's testing efforts and claiming, without evidence, that "99%" of coronavirus cases "are totally harmless."

Once again the snake oil salesman makes promises he knows can't be kept and leaves his minions scrambling to fix his mess.

Additional incentive NOT to do what's necessary to protect their health and that of others, they will contract the virus and many will die. And I have zero sympathy for them. My reserve of empathy for these people is bone dry. If not for the collateral damage they cause to innocent people by their stupidity, I'd not give two shits what happened to them.

3. Seriously? In the Trump administration? "A solemn promise?" "A decision based on science?"

Listen, Bub, you might be a serious scientist yourself, but any "solemn promises" in the Trump administration, especially based on science is just a joke.

As for scientific brilliance, the Trump administration - into which you've signed on - has put the nation's Education department in the hands of an Amway scammer, the DOE in the hands of a slow-witted former Governor, and the HHS department in the hands of a lobbyist with not a shred of scientific training.

We wish our scientists well, but please, people are dying, and this is no time to make jokes about "solemn promises" about vaccines "based on science."

Take 200 chloroquines and call us in January.

When you have a conman liar and a cheat who does the hiring, we can’t be surprised to see him hire people just like him self to head all those different departments. Well to those people who voted for him in the last election, I say one message “ You dumb fucks you could have had Hillary the class brainiac and instead you hire the class dummy with just a line of bullshit and no substance whatsoever and now look at the mess we’re. The terrible role model won’t wear a mask when it would be the simplest thing he could do to get people marching in the right direction in the face of this pandemic.

trump’s administration has refused to allow Dr. Anthony Fauci, the federal government’s top infectious disease expert, to appear on the network for three months. trump can muzzle Dr. Fauci as long as the Dr. is employed by the NIAID* as Director. *National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases

For all the people who ever wanted to live in a state run by totalitarian dictator congratulations you’ve got it now

Fauci needs to grow a pair and resign in protest... he's clearly lost all influence within the administration and someone needs to step up. 50,000+ cases / day is insane
