Florida and Texas report record surge of new coronavirus cases over Fourth of July weekend

Source: CNBC

Florida and Texas hit a record number of daily coronavirus cases on Saturday, respectively reporting 11,445 and 8,258 new cases in the last 24 hours, according to figures released by the states' health departments.

The virus has infected more than 190,000 people in Florida and at least 3,700 people have died, and new cases in the state have increased by 67% based on a seven-day average.

The number of infections in Texas has now reached nearly 192,000 as hospitalizations there surge. Hospitals in at least two Texas counties, Starr and Hidalgo, are at full capacity and local officials are urging residents there to shelter-in-place and avoid gatherings.

Florida reported Saturday that 14.1% of those tested for the virus were positive while Texas reported a positive rate of 13.1%, both well above the 5% threshold that the World Health Organization advises as a safe level for governments to reopen business. Those testing positive in Florida tend to be younger, with a median age of 35 as of Saturday. In Texas, available data shows a large portion of those testing positive are between 20 and 39 years old.

Especially when the same people who refuse to comply are the ones who want to reopen the economy. This epidemic would be under complete control if everyone would had complied, but their ridiculous refusal has only prolonged and intensified the epidemic. What is really insanity is Trump could have been the hero if he had taken the correct position and firmly backed the medical experts and demanded that everyone strictly comply. I really believe that if he had he could have made his reelection possible despite his major blunders throughout his entire presidency. It only testifies to the basic question of his mental deficiency which has always been in question. His refusal to accept that he is wrong has been a life long impediment that those who have know him from childhood have acknowledged. He would take ridiculous positions and when proven wrong simple refuse to admit it. He was and continues to be an incorrigible narcistic brat.

"We told you so!".

I remember my cousin in Italy telling my family how bad it was there and he said that we were going to be experiencing the same thing too soon and we didn't doubt him at all. I still recall writing to him, "Oh my God, 10,000 new cases, how horrible!". That is when I got a few N95 masks with my family, before they were all sold out in the US.

Some people can't see the writing on the wall...

A plague for liberals up north and their failed socialist states. It won't affect us down here in Gawd's country. Gawd will protect us. And it's no worse than a bad case of flu anyway. I ain't scared of that ole virus.

I'm not joking. I know people in TN and NC who actually believe that shit. You can't reason with these people. You just can't. They'll go on believing that bullshit until many of them are terribly sick, debilitated or dead. They're that fucking stupid.

Who couldn't see this coming?

Florida's Ron DeSantis and Texas's Governor Abbott and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick
were in everybody's face doing their "Fox News Talking Points" about how they had
to open it all back up and now 10s of thousands will die and >150,000 will get the
disease.
