Governor Abbott orders statewide use of face masks, limits gatherings to no more than 10

Source: ABC

Governor Greg Abbott has issued an executive order requiring all Texans to wear a face covering over the nose and mouth in public spaces.

The order applies to counties with 20 or more positive COVID-19 cases, with few exceptions.

The governor also issued a proclamation giving mayors and county judges the ability to impose restrictions on some outdoor gatherings over 10 people and making it mandatory that, with certain exceptions, people cannot be in groups later than 10 and must maintain six feet of social distancing from others.

"Wearing a face covering in public is proven to be one of the most effective ways we have to slow the spread of COVID-19,” said Governor Abbott. “We have the ability to keep businesses open and move our economy forward so that Texans can continue to earn a paycheck, but it requires each of us to do our part to protect one another—and that means wearing a face covering in public spaces. Likewise, large gatherings are a clear contributor to the rise in COVID-19 cases. Restricting the size of groups gatherings will strengthen Texas’ ability to corral this virus and keep Texans safe. We all have a responsibility to slow the spread of COVID-19 and keep our communities safe. If Texans commit to wearing face coverings in public spaces and follow the best health and safety practices, we can both slow the spread of COVID-19 and keep Texas open for business. I urge all Texans to wear a face covering in public, not just for their own health, but for the health of their families, friends, and for all our fellow Texans.”

reconsidered. Election workers and voters don't need to wear masks. I worked the primary and I got sick (it wasn't Covid-19). I was sick for 3 weeks. I think poll workers should wear masks. I think voters should wear masks and poll workers should ask them to remove the mask to verify their identity and then they should put them back on.

As a matter of fact, you can't enter Bexar County Elections without a mask AND temperature check. I believe election workers might have temperature checks at polling sites. I haven't heard of any election worker complain about the mask mandate.

Masks can't be mandated on voters, but we have signs at the polls that say, "If you do not have a mask, one will be provided for you".
Mandating masks for voters can be a violation of voting rights. I agree poll watchers should wear masks, that is just dumb.

When I voted on Monday, I wore my mask the entire time. I showed both my DL and my voter registration card, so it would be easier for them to qualify me. We were supposed to have a "no contact" qualification, (scan the DL through the pexiglass, but it didn't work out). I ended up having to hand her my DL.

I did not have to remove my mask to verify my identity.

Voting is a right. Poll workers can't question people about why they aren't wearing a mask.

I really don't think it's going to be a problem at the polls anyway. The Republican governor ordered it, so I think most will comply.

Now he has to step up and be much more proactive in dealing with the fallout resulting from his previous policy. I just don't get it, this is an emergency, but public policy is all over the place so mo wonder people are confused. I blame the federal government, big surprise. Policy should have come from the top since the beginning and so much suffering and death could have been avoided.

Well I think what’s happening now and of course this thing has really taken off The Republican governors opened up way too fast and now everybody is starting to realise we got problems in this country so you’re right it’s going to be a haphazard shoot from the hip approach by different governors and it would be best of course if we had a real leader and the president who will take the lead like some of the others were trying to do and tell everybody what to do. The role model of course was governor Cuomo who had it wired every step of the way. Unfortunately good national leadership was abominable and so now we have to deal with it in this country being a day late and a dollar short. What a cluster fuck

At his announcement today, Abbott was gesturing all a lot and looked like he was 30 seconds away from a panic attack. That’s what happens when you listen to the Asshole-in-Chief and treat a pandemic like a political football. I’m so angry at these ignorant jerks. Last night, a nurse was on our local news, in tears, because medical personnel have been dealing with this crisis for months and they are exhausted—physically and emotionally. They’ve all been working horrific hours, and they’re all worried about catching the virus and dying themselves.

The Republican idiots who think their freedom depends on not wearing a mask just all need to be sent to an uninhabited island to fend for themselves. They aren’t decent enough to live in a civilized society. And they can take Trump with them.

Our 'wonderful' governor here in Texas is all over no more than 10 people to gather together - OUTSIDE - but what about the thousands of Republicans who plan to get together here in Houston later this month for their state convention? I didn't see anything about that- or any other inside gatherings (where it's more dangerous) being canceled.

I hope I just missed that.
