Coronavirus crisis deepens as Florida soars over 10,000 new cases, largest jump of the pandemic

Florida is now deeper into its coronavirus crisis than ever before, as the state added 10,109 new cases on Thursday.

That’s a record for the pandemic, continuing a surge of COVID-19 infections that began a month ago. The previous high mark was 9,585 cases on Saturday.

To date, at least 169,106 people have been diagnosed with the disease.

The Department of Health also reported 68 additional deaths linked to COVID-19, for a new total of 3,718 fatalities. The death toll has also been creeping up.

The record-high daily case totals have forced state and local officials to stop bars from serving alcohol, beef up enforcement of business capacity rules, and close beaches over the upcoming holiday weekend.

1. Florida and Arizona are going to escalate the death toll in an ugly way soon

You simply do not have the combination of a high-density elderly population, a runaway curve of new cases and hospitalizations and NOT see a corresponding rise in deaths as a result.

If the death rates remain low, it will be because the reporting is being manipulated to suppress the numbers. DeSantis is Trump's boy...there is no way I would believe ANYTHING that goes through anything he has access to or control over, period.

BTW, schmuck boy Ronnie...you still looking for credit and claiming that YOU were right and the experts were wrong? Didn't think so...

And the other side talks about "wait and see." Like there is some doubt as to what the outcome would be of opening too soon and not requiring masks in enough places. You don't need to "wait and see", we have ample evidence just from past pandemics what will happen, but even more evidence from this one.

And now they're taking the "wait and see" approach with deaths. Daring us to say that deaths will spike in some number of days. Deaths are going to spike, period, it;s a simple equation, there is no wait and see, 50,000 people a day are being proven to have Covid-19, a deadly disease, it didn't get any less deadlier. Now we may be able to treat it better and some of those getting it now might not be as vulnerable, but we've seen a doubling of cases a day, not just some 5% spike, but more than doubling. People are going to die by the thousands.

And if young people are being diagnosed with it a lot more now, that's not a good thing, that's a very very bad thing. They're less likely to quarantine, they're less likely to know they have it, they're more likely to be out and about socializing. Young people are perfect vectors that will eventually spread it to more vulnerable populations.
