DeSantis says Florida 'not going back' on reopening as COVID-19 cases surge
Source: The Hill
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said Tuesday that his state is not going back on reopening as thousands of new COVID-19 cases continue to be reported every day.
DeSantis told reporters that the state will not follow Texas Gov. Greg Abbotts (R) move to pause reopening, according to Axios.
We're not going back, closing things, he said. I don't think that that's really what's driving it. People going to a business is not what's driving it. I think when you see the younger folks I think a lot of it is more just social interactions, so that's natural.
When reporters asked if DeSantis would encourage people to stay home, he said social distancing was being recommended throughout the reopening process and that keeping the elderly and vulnerable safe was Floridas priority.

(12,286 posts)There are way too many non compliance folks out there to contaminate any new shutdown plan....The virus is already well seeded nationally...I suggest, those who want to survive...wear a mask, hunker down, plan any out of home events like store, pharmacy, essential needs with an organized list, short visit, use hand sanitizer/ often when out...time the events during low populated times....choose grocery stores that are observed cleaning shopping carts all the time...
The fact that it is known as evidence of many " Karen rage" shopping videos...won't wear a mask... it just take one to contaminate an area...and we have many who are doing just that...

(8,052 posts)but it's hard to see how a state that relies heavily on tourism expects to lure vacationers to their diseased cesspool. Who would go there now?
Just like refusing to lose out on Spring Break, powerful business backers want all cyclinders running for July 4th weekend.

DeSantis is an idiot.

(13,579 posts)If it were, he'd realize that "opening up" doesn't magically generate demand, certainly not enough to sustain most businesses. No, his only concern is pleasing trump. That's the full scope of it.

(12,712 posts)With that approach, Florida will shut itself down, so to speak.
Their will be no choice as the situation becomes a catastrophic emergency. People will be panicking, dying in the streets, etc.
This is going to be bad, especially thanks to a Trump sycophant like that. That blood, so to speak, is on his hands.

It's a feature, not a bug.
