Texas breaks record with nearly 7,000 new coronavirus cases
Source: MSN
Texas officials announced nearly 7,000 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, breaking the state's record for the total number of confirmed cases in one day.
The new daily record of 6,975 cases sits far higher than the state's previous record of around 6,000 cases.
The news comes as trend lines indicate that the rate of new infections in the state is sharply accelerating even as other hotspots such as New York have seen levels of new cases receding.
State officials have struggled to explain the sharp rise in cases, with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) explaining in a recent interview that the state should have slowed efforts to reopen some businesses including bars.

In California, you have local governments refusing to enforce the Statewide mask orders. In Texas, you have the State banning local governments from imposing mandatory mask orders. Either way, you have the two biggest states seeing increases in COVID-19 cases because for some reason, exercising basic health precautions has become a political issue.

Gov. Greg Abbotts new executive order related to Texas response to contain the spread of the coronavirus eliminates Austins and Travis Countys ability to enforce local requirements for people to wear masks.
During a briefing on his new order, which will allow many businesses across Texas reopen their doors on a limited basis, Abbott said his order supersedes any local orders that impose fines for people found violating face mask mandates.
Abbotts order does recommend people wear face masks in public, but said no local government could issue a civil or criminal penalty to anyone not wearing a mask. Orders issued on April 13 by Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt and Mayor Steve Adler had provisions including $1,000 fines for violations of face mask requirements.
At the time, the two officials said they only would ask law enforcement to start issuing fines if they did not see widespread compliance.

(9,191 posts)This is entirely at Trump's feet.
The soft-brained supporters of Trump look at his refusal to wear a mask in public and have decided that will be their signifier of political identity. They see his oblivious statements on the seriousness of the pandemic (It'll just disappear, etc...) and they adopt that attitude, versus the widely reported scientific recommendations, as their "statement" about the deep state and fake news.
Trump's grooming of his followers to only believe what comes out of his mouth is literally killing us.

For propagandists, masks have become the latest weapon deployed by elitists who previously pushed shutdowns and even the science of epidemiology itself as a way to undermine basic freedoms.
Pictures of Trump standing proudly barefaced among mask-wearing establishment scientists in Washington have become an emblem of the President's insurgent and disruptive bravado.

Trump apparently believes that wearing a mask in public will undercut his message that it's now safe to reopen the economy that is vital to his reelection. His retweet on Monday of a picture originally tweeted by Fox News veteran Brit Hume of Biden in a mask suggests that there may be a measure of personal vanity involved for the President.

... The directive from the White House management office was laid out in a memo to staffers Monday afternoon, NBC reported. ... The memo also asked staff members to avoid visiting the West Wing, where the Oval Office is located, unless it is necessary, the sources told NBC.
Something to keep in mind when some fuckhead harasses you about wearing a mask -- if they're so ineffective or the Covid19 is just a hoax, or if only wimps or Democrat Islamo-Maoists" wear them, then why does your fearless leader require everyone near him to wear a mask? Why is he wimpifying his staff -- and by extension himself?

June 14: 20, June 30: 35, +75% in 16 days
Many states showing strong rises in their daily new cases still show falling daily new deaths because the population that is getting infected lately is skewing much younger than before (infected young people die at much lower rates than infected old people). And because new deaths lag new cases by at least 2 weeks.
But Texas is showing strong increases in daily new deaths as well as in daily new cases.

Fauci said today that hes concerned about states like Texas that skipped over certain things, Patrick said in a clip from the June 30 show. He doesnt know what hes talking about. We havent skipped over anything. The only thing Im skipping over is listening to him.
Patrick claimed Fauci has been wrong every time on every issue, but did not elaborate.
