Suspect in custody after man shot dead during Breonna Taylor protest in Kentucky

Source: CBS News

The suspect arrested in the shooting death of a man during a Louisville protest over the police killing of Breonna Taylor had taken part in demonstrations but was disruptive and had been asked by other protesters to leave, authorities and protesters said Sunday.

The man, identified by an arrest citation as Steven Nelson Lopez, was hospitalized and being interviewed by homicide investigators about the shooting that happened late Saturday, interim Louisville Police Chief Robert Schroeder said at a news conference.

Lopez was wounded in the leg by gunfire from bystanders at the park who were defending themselves, the arrest citation said. He has been charged with murder and wanton endangerment.

Tyler Charles Gerth, 27, of Louisville, died after being shot at Jefferson Square Park in downtown Louisville, authorities said. The Courier Journal reported that Gerth was an avid photographer and a vocal supporter of the ongoing protests whose godfather is a columnist at the newspaper.

So it looks like it wasn’t a white supremacist, aka lover of the orange traitor. I must admit I jumped the gun yesterday as I was certain the murderer was a Trumpster.

Court records show he was one of 17 protesters arrested on June 17, and a Courier Journal photographer captured his arrest in a photo. He was charged that morning with inciting a riot, disorderly conduct, harassment and possession of drug paraphernalia. His citation noted he was in possession of a handgun "with two full mags of ammo" at the time of the arrest. https://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/crime/2020/06/28/louisville-breonna-taylor-protest-shooting-suspect-identified/3274385001/

He certainly was not there to honor Breonna's life if he ended up taking a life.

in that public park. Regardless, they do intend to continue the protest.

I'm so glad this is being resolved promptly for the sake of our city and for this good cause for Breonna and others like her.

Not a problem with the people protesting or the reason by any means.

But there is a small, determined group of hard core Anarchist who seem to be attracted to all of them. This looks like the perfect example. The protesters themselves tried to get rid of him. So he shoots them up. It’s been a thing for over 20 years.

These, in my opinion, were the same ones who tried to pull down the Jackson statue in Layette square. That was not an organic protest but very organized. They brought expensive tow straps with them.

These people are not our friends. They hate democrats as much as republicans.

They are the lefts example of the Horseshoe theory. The more radical the left and right extremes because the more they become the same.

When I first joined DU there were a few here. They have all apparently left. I’m

Recently we have seen several protests where African Americans are carrying guns. I’m talking folks on our side. If the right wing nuts are going to turn out armed, eventually everyone else will as well.
