Trump wasn't briefed on report Russia paid Taliban to kill forces in Afghanistan, White House says
Source: USA Today
WASHINGTON The White House denied Saturday that President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence had been briefed on an intelligence finding that a Russian military intelligence unit secretly offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants to kill American troops and other coalition forces in Afghanistan.
The United States receives thousands of intelligence reports a day, and they are subject to strict scrutiny, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said in a statement.
While the White House does not routinely comment on intelligence or internal deliberations, the CIA Director, National Security Advisor, and the Chief of Staff can all confirm that neither the President nor the Vice President were briefed on the alleged Russian bounty intelligence, McEnany said.
The New York Times, which first reported the intelligence finding on Friday, said Trump had been briefed on the issue and that the White Houses National Security Council discussed the matter at an interagency meeting in late March.

(2,577 posts)So ... the Russians are offering bounties to the Taliban to kill our soldiers ... wow, that sure wouldn't be important enough to share with --say--the president OR the vice president. That sure is believable.
The other option is that the intelligence services didn't tell Donny and Mikey because they are too stupid or too corrupt to have the information.
Just not acceptable there, Kayleigh. What can I say?

I admit, this one is the worst. But Trump also allowed Russia to take over the Arctic Circle and to fly fighter jets and bombers over Alaska, sometimes three times a month.

(5,707 posts)I believe that this White House would not consider that matter to be "high importance."
I believe that staff have completely given up briefing either Generalissimo Corpulente or Mommy's Special Little Mikey on anything but weather conditions at golf courses.
I believe that this maladministration is, top-to-bottom, unfit to serve and that they demonstrate that fact every day.

As the news broke it triggered a fierce response from top Democrats, especially those who have long pointed to what they say is Trumps overly close relationship to Russias autocratic leader, Vladimir Putin. ...............(more)

(3,430 posts)Karl Rove pulled off a brilliant move to catapult a somewhat UNillustrious candidate to the presidency, by planting an unfavorable story that had some truth to it, and forging the evidence to back the story up. Only THIS time, it may be Trump and Putin working together (if you can call Putin telling Trump what to do, 'working together') planting the story and 'leaking ' the evidence.
Sounds too good to be true. Be careful.
