Measures to protect Trump from coronavirus scale up even as he seeks to move on
Source: CNN
(CNN)President Donald Trump appears ready to move on from a still-raging coronavirus pandemic -- skipping the first White House task force briefing in months and moving the event out of the White House itself. But the measures meant to protect him from catching the virus have scaled up dramatically.
As he seeks to insert rival Joe Biden's health into the presidential campaign, Trump has voiced escalating concern about how it would appear if he contracted coronavirus and has insisted on steps to protect himself, even as he refuses to wear a mask in public and agitates for large campaign rallies where the virus could spread.
When he travels to locations where the virus is surging, every venue the President enters is inspected for potential areas of contagion by advance security and medical teams, according to people familiar with the arrangements. Bathrooms designated for the President's use are scrubbed and sanitized before he arrives. Staff maintain a close accounting of who will come into contact with the President to ensure they receive tests.
While the White House phases out steps such as temperature checks and required mask-wearing in the West Wing -- changes meant to signal the country is moving on -- those around the President still undergo regular testing. And even as Trump attempts to put the pandemic behind him by encouraging reopening and downplaying the new surge, there are signs of the still-raging pandemic even within his orbit.

(42,354 posts)I don't think he is a true germaphobe. He doesn't like someone else having the nerve to cough in his presence, but he has no problem grabbing any woman who meets his hotness requirement and sticking his tongue in her mouth and his hand in her p***y.

(3,764 posts)I don't want him to get sick enough that he wouldn't be fit to serve as president. But I do want him to feel miserable for 2 or 3 weeks and wish he would die.
If he were to die they would replace him for the election and I don't want Pence either. And someone like Pence might just win and where would we be then.

(7,496 posts)I mean...I despise them, but they could have taken ownership of the pandemic using their brand and protected a lot of their followers and others.

(10,035 posts)If hed just let the experts set protocols and not denied and fought it every step of the way he could have capitalized in tragedy like Bush did. And as you say he could have made a fortune off the rubes selling them 10 cent masks for $15 with his logo on them. Such a brilliant businessman.

(7,496 posts)and they all would change their minds.
He could have strode up to that podium in OK with a red mask on, take it off and say "I don't like masks and I'm gonna take this off to talk to you, but we've made these masks. Some people say they're the most beautiful masks in history! I know we don't like wearing masks, but we also like you staying safe. We want you all healthy and voting and making America great again, so you too can have one of these most beautiful masks for a $15 donation...you too can own the libs!"
They would have eaten that shit up and rightwingers would be yelling at us to wear masks and "make America whatever" again.

(7,496 posts)He has a long-term fear of being poisoned. Well come back to that; suffice it to say that the way it is described suggests that this predates his ascension to high office. So it can only have worsened: if youre worried about a toxic attack when youre fronting The Apprentice, imagine how much more likely that must seem once youre president. Its such a peculiar fear, dated to the point of myth the kind of threat someone might dream if they had half-listened through one Roman fable and then refracted everything they ever knew through their own ego. But lets not start intuiting: the pictures bad enough just with its raw facts.
Trumps answer to the poisoning threat is to eat McDonalds, by preference, all the time; the burger chain never knows hes coming, and its all pre-made. This has the distinct ring of post-hoc justification it would be much more reliable to get a nine-year-old to sit next to him and pre-taste his food. Besides which, even if the staff of McDonalds dont in general know whos coming, it would be unusual for them to feed the president without a heads-up. Much more likely, Trump fears poison and he really likes McDonalds.
