Trump won't follow New Jersey quarantine order; 'he's not a civilian,' White House says

Source: NBC

The White House said Wednesday that President Donald Trump will not change his plan to travel to New Jersey this weekend despite a new order by the governor requiring visitors who have been in states with high numbers of coronavirus cases to quarantine for 14 days.

“The president of the United States is not a civilian,” White House spokesman Judd Deere said when asked about Trump’s compliance with the quarantine order given his travel Tuesday to Arizona, which has seen a rise in the rate of its COVID-19 cases.

“Anyone who is in close proximity to him, including staff, guests and press are tested for COVID-19 and confirmed to be negative,” Deere said in a statement.

“With regard to Arizona, the White House followed its COVID mitigation plan to ensure the president did not come into contact with anyone who was symptomatic or had not been tested,” the spokesman added.

This is a question of whether he must quarintine in NJ for 14 days. He doesn't, and it's unreasonable to demand that he do so. We should expect he would choose not to go there just to hang out at his golf course. But he's a fool.

Again, in this context... it's irrelevant. He has the justified power to ignore that state quarantine order. He's a fool, and terrible, and dangerous, and... and... and. But his office necessarily has the power to ignore that order. For that reason, this is a waste of energy getting upset over the legality of it.

Focus on the fact that going to NJ to play golf is a stupid, selfish, dangerous thing to do. And that he's a terrible person for doing it. That's a very defensible position.

Well I know he spends more time at his golf courses and resorts than he spends working. I know he has been going on these campaign rallies on the tax payers' dime for the entire 3-1/2 years he's been in office. My understanding is that he does not compensate the cities and towns he visits, even if they ask him not to come, for expenses that come out of their budgets to cover the costs of his "visits". I also know that the amount of federal money going to towns and cities has been cut drastically during his reign.

So he shows up, uses a bunch of their resources, and then stiffs them. You think it would be "petty" for them not to allow themselves to be abused financially like that?

Interesting perspective.

But he also isn't subject to the orders of a state governor.

The reply is incredibly ham-handed (what a surprise), but it's accurate enough. Any state that is ordering a self-quarantine for those traveling from high-infection states is doing so because there is no easy way to know that they aren't carrying the infection with them. If they CAN tell that the person isn't infected because he's regularly tested for it... then they can't insist on quarantine.

... from relocating a platoon to an Army base in any given state.

If Canada invaded Wisconsin and a law like this existed in WI, nothing would stop the President from sending troops in and legally ignoring quarantining. President falls into that same "loophole" as commander in chief. He could go to WI can direct troops. He has to be allowed to function with all of the powers that any military member would also. In fact, because he's the #1 commander, he can override military policy as well.

Any time in at least a fourteen day period, they could test positive from prior exposure. During those fourteen days, they would not be shedding enough virus to be detected.
That's why there is a fourteen day quarantine and that's why a moron that recklessly exposes himself to the virus should be quarantined.

This is the latest product line from the folks who brought you, "It was a joke". I always groan when I hear some pundit say that Trump understands image. Just because it's all he focuses on doesn't mean he's good at it. Everything he does, says or is looks bad. He doesn't even have the sense to hide behind the paper thin lies his staff tell to save him from himself.

Check the UCMJ, Article 2 to see who is subject to the UCMJ. It's an interesting read.

My husband and I haven't worn our uniforms in nearly forty years. As paid retirees of a regular component we are subject to UCMJ, Article 2(4). If anyone is subject to the Book, they can be stark naked and be brought up on charges, such as rape or adultery and a whole lot more. One other thing, duties like Intell and internal affairs (OSI for example) civies are often the required 'uniform'. Keeping it on the down low.

BTW the president is not on the hit list. He is a fucking civilian among other fucking things.

I wish he were subject to the Book. There's about fifteen punitive charges, on or about, he's violated.
