Record high of new coronavirus cases reported in California: More than 6,000 in a day

Source: LA Times

California shattered a daily record for new coronavirus cases with more than 6,000 infections reported Monday — the largest single-day count in the state since the pandemic hit the U.S.

In Los Angeles County, officials on Tuesday reported more than 2,000 new cases for the fourth time in the last week, bringing the total number of infections to more than 88,200. Officials also reported 34 additional deaths, increasing the death toll to 3,171 — the bulk of the state’s total.

In San Diego County, officials reported more than 300 new cases for the second day in a row after breaking a record with more than 310 cases Sunday.

The case count is only one metric in tracking the spread of the virus, and, while increased testing capacity may account for part of the increase, officials have said the surge cannot be pegged to testing alone.

He's a lame duck president.

I just wish I saw more masks on out there then I do. I was thankful Gov. Newsom mandated them. My county finally did after that, but they sure did drag their feet on masks.

it was essential and wore masks and gloves (the first week of March). Thanks a lot to all the assholes who protested against wearing masks and closures due to YOUR RIGHTS and FREEDUMB! I wasted 4 months to protect YOU selfish, irresponsible assholes! I wish the worst for you!

It is not clear how much power Gov Newsom truly has to control this. If people widely ignore the mask regulations, what can he do?

I get angry at the amount of idiots walking around without masks on—and or—hanging out in large groups.

We live in a small town outside Jacksonville, NC. We shop for most things in a small grocery store where all workers wear masks and so do at least 90% of shoppers. We do have to go to a small city near us once a month for non-perishables. That store does a good job also to protect workers and shoppers. Luckily, my husband and I are healthy and check in with our primary care doctors at the VA clinic by phone and all are meds are mailed to us. We have a large family, 15 people, 6 on our property and 9 within 2 miles of us. We visit on the internet.

The increases in Calif, Texas, and Florida are so stark, they aren't want I would expect from the opening up of commerce.
