(40,153 posts)Officer Rolfe was totally out of control. Two vehicles of bystanders were shot at. Kicking the man. Knowing the taser was spent. I hope he gets life.

(8,479 posts)And I was impressed. He didn't hold back on charges, and he laid out why.

(12,163 posts)The cop was hateful. He kicked the man after shooting him twice, with one bullet going through his heart.
The other cop stood on him while he was bleeding out. They had a duty to call for medical but waited.
Anyone who doubts guilt needs to take the time to watch a replay of the press conference.
There could have been more people killed because the cop was firing his weapon in a crowded parking lot. A car with two passengers was hit with one of the three shots.

(224 posts)I was born and raised and worked in Atlanta for many years before i retired to Florida a few years ago. I have never bee so proud to watch DA Howard's presentation of these charges and his professionalism, his detail and his honesty. AWESOME. if you know those who just have to argue without facts, durect them to this exceptional honest presentation.
There is a future for us all with pros like this.

If there should be more national press on these I hope the women involved are treated fairly here on du.

(25,183 posts)about the charges against Brosnan, beyond trying to subdue a suspect who was resisting a lawful arrest, I didn't see anything that would amount to assault.

(17,857 posts)He would have been in the clear if he went to render aid instead (except for the fact he allowed his Taser to be taken from him which probably should have gotten him suspended at least).

(25,183 posts)I was not aware of what the two cops did after the shooting of Brooks.

(10,252 posts)Surely EVERYONE knows that citizens carry cell phones that capture police arrests on video. There were plenty of witnesses at the scene. A population that is already upset and fed up with police violence. Why would any cop shoot a man running away in the back TWICE, and then stand on his dying body? I just don't get it.
I can only assign Howard's actions to racist depraved indifference and deep stupidity.

(17,857 posts)The other one stood on him. That and "I got him" went a long way towards justifying the murder charge.

Reminds me of the WWII rampages the young Nazi solders manifested, which we found out later were pumped with drugs by the war lords.
Was he pumped up with drugs, self administrated. causing this evil hatred? If not then what?

It would be interesting to find out how frequently substance use is involved.

(35,432 posts)We ask ourselves, "Don't they watch the news?" "Don't they know what's going with the protests?"
And of course the cell phone issue.
What is wrong with these cops?
In addition to what you say in your last line, vlyons, I would add "acculturation." Police have created a them against us world.
I have a friend who is a professor of criminal justice and she is married to a detective. I cringe when I hear her talk. She once said that her husband's department routinely dismissed rape charges because the women were "always lying."

(7,587 posts)what's more difficult will be for a jury to convict him on these. Hopefully, he will be found guilty. There may have been enough of a societal shift the past few weeks that he will end up convicted. A few years ago, he would have gotten Scott free arguing he was defending against a criminal and the jury would have bought it.
Now we have black live matters, we have videos and the general public is starting to realize how bad it actually is so he probably will get convicted.

(15,246 posts)Showed he and the investigators really did their homework before filing charges.
Surprised the other cop flipped, but good for him. Maybe he'll be the start of a trend for other officers who see wrong doing to speak up/stand up.
