Target raises minimum wage to $15 an hour months before its deadline
Source: CNBC
Target said Wednesday it is raising its minimum wage to $15 per hour and will give all hourly employees a one-time bonus of $200.
The $2 per hour raise will apply to employees at stores and distribution centers, beginning July 5. Target had temporarily raised its wages by $2 an hour in March as coronavirus cases rose.
The bonuses, which recognize part-time and full-time employees' work during the pandemic, will be paid out at the end of July, according to the company, which has more than 350,000 employees and nearly 1,900 stores across the U.S.
Target's announcement is the culmination of several years of raising employee pay. Three years ago, the retailer announced a plan to increase its starting hourly pay from $10 to $15 over three years. It raised the minimum wage to $13 an hour last June and pledged to raise it to $15 an hour by the end of 2020.

(42,862 posts)I have to be careful when buying groceries there. It's NOT worthwhile to load-up and entire cart of groceries. But if you watch for sales and promotions... or if you're already at target and just need a few grocery items (rather than a separate trip to the grocery store) then sometimes it's worth it just because it's convenient.
I like the fact that the Target I usually shop is always ALWAYS sparkling clean (unlike Walmart). I recall many times going to Walmart and the overnight restocking chores had not been finished. Instead, customers were forced to shop from abandoned pallets of merchandise that had been left in the aisles.
TIP: Never wear a red blouse or shirt to Target. Everyone and their mother assumes you're an employee and will constantly ask for help or directions.

(23,295 posts)Wouldnt touch a Walmart for anything. Ive only been in the actual Target twice since the start of COVID. I keep a list of what our household needs on my phone and when weve reached $25 worth of items, I place the order online and they deliver it for free. Theyll also compile a list of any size and keep it at the service center for a quick pick up. Im glad to hear theyre raising wages.

(20,142 posts)You have to remember that Walton heirs own 51% of Walmart stock. If the Walmart employees are getting screwed over, it's because the Walton family wants it that way.
Over 80% of Target stock is owned by institutional investors, with no one company owning more than 9%.
