SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) Police in Southern California shot and killed a man they believed was armed with a gun, authorities said Sunday.
Officers responded to a gas station convenience store in San Bernardino on Saturday night following a report of a man waving around a handgun, the city's police department said in a statement.
Patrol officers arrived and located a suspect matching the description, and the suspect was still carrying what appeared to be a black handgun in his hand. An officer-involved shooting occurred and the suspect was struck and was injured, the statement said.
. . .
Delina Miranda, who witnessed the incident, said she saw the man earlier rummaging through garbage cans with a flashlight.

(5,397 posts)Being not-white and wielding a flashlight.
Add that to the list of reasons to get killed by the Defenders of the Peace, Our Fine Officers of the Law.
(It's a long list. Includes 'Running away from the police while black' and 'breathing while black'.)
Honestly?
Police training:
Rule 1: Shoot first, ask questions later.
Rule 2: 'Oh, my bad! Sorry!' gets you off.
Rule 3: You get 6 bullets per shift. We want you to use them all.
I guess if I wanted to kill my neighbor, all I need to do is ring the police, and use a few key words . . . like 'he is black' . . . 'he has lots of weapons' . . . . 'planning to kill police officers'.
Yep, easy way to get rid of a troublesome neighbor.

"drop the gun!" means drop whatever the hell you're holding.
We COULD wait for the rest of the facts.

(3,150 posts)pointing ANYTHING that might be a gun -or look like a gun to a stressed out person with bad eyesight at night- at any cop or soldier *WILL* get me shot, and that no one is going to have the slightest bit of sympathy for me.
Period.

(47,430 posts)who apparently was Hispanic and he definitely looks like he is pointing a gun at the cops, not a flashlight. However, that does not mean that the police acted appropriately, we still don't know enough details. Right now, any shooting by police is suspect and will hopefully get serious scrutiny.
