Ground beef sold at Walmart, other stores recalled for possible E. coli contamination

Source: USA Today

Nearly 43,000 pounds of ground beef including packages sold at Walmart stores are being recalled because of possible E. coli contamination.

The Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced late Saturday that Lakeside Refrigerated Services, of Swedesboro, New Jersey, is recalling select packages of ground beef produced on June 1.

The products, which were sold under brand names including Thomas Farms and Marketside Butcher, may be contaminated with the strain of Escherichia coli O157:H7 and have an establishment number “EST. 46841” inside the USDA mark of inspection, according to the recall notice.

These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide, the notice states. Marketside Butcher products are sold at Walmart.

Never buy it. Then read that.

We have a German Baptist Butcher. They do their own.

mixed from numerous animals, hard to trace

grind yourself, have it ground, or at least get the packages done in-store

alternating 2 cleavers on a round cutting board, rotate the board a quarter turn whenever, it's done in a flash and cleanup is a breeze, much easier than a food processor. It also gets your aggression out. Just make sure there's some fat in there or it will taste like cardboard.

I bought a grinder for the kitchenaid a while ago, but I still haven't used it, I usually get meat from the local packing plant and sometimes it is even our beef!

We checked and found two packages in the freezer, but they had different dates and different EST numbers than those given in the story. Even so, I think we'll segregate those two packs and see if this story gets any bigger.

I'm glad I checked.

Thanks again!

but settled on a whole chicken. I usually find beef at my regional super to have less fat at a dime or two less. Not that I eat beef very often.
