Kim Jong Un's sister threatens S. Korea with military action

Source: AP

By KIM TONG-HYUNG

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — The powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un threatened military action against South Korea as she bashed Seoul on Saturday over declining bilateral relations and its inability to stop activists from floating anti-Pyongyang leaflets across the border.

Describing South Korea as an “enemy,” Kim Yo Jong repeated an earlier threat she had made by saying Seoul will soon witness the collapse of a “useless” inter-Korean liaison office in the border town of Kaesong.

Kim, who is first vice department director of the ruling Workers’ Party’s Central Committee, said she would leave it to North Korea’s military leaders to carry out the next step of retaliation against the South.

“By exercising my power authorized by the supreme leader, our party and the state, I gave an instruction to the arms of the department in charge of the affairs with enemy to decisively carry out the next action,” she said in a statement carried by the North’s official Korean Central News Agency.

She has a face of a psychopath. That is a look that one does not want to get from her. So cold, threatening and humourless. I can only imagine the horrors she has personally ordered and witnessed done against individuals she has decided have wronged her in some way.

Can’t think of another communist country that worked any other way.

Although at the end of the day, I agree with you. It’s a dictatorial monarchy. Which will always happen when any country gives total power to one group of people. Perhaps using the no true Scotsman saying we can say this is how all communist countries become?

That is a well thought out pose. She is saying "Don't even think of messing with me.". South Korea has a lot more to worry about if she is in charge. I could see her grabbing trump by the balls and saying, "I own you.".

And why not make threats? South Korea's biggest ally is in shambles and at their weakest point in decades. So much winning! Thanks, magats.

South Korea would squash them like a bug in a military conflict and they know it. The military disparities are glaring even without US troops.

Try to fight a 1960’s war against South Korea and they would beat anyone.

The Norks have a shitload of artillery pointed right at Seoul, and a lot of it is said to be in tunnels and such so a first-strike can't neutralize that capability. They can roll them out and start lobbing shells into a densely populated metro area. A whole boatload of folks in Seoul would die in a few hours.

And if Kim or his sister saw that the war was lost and their regime wouldn't survive the aftermath, I don't think they'd have any qualms about breaking out their nukes. After all, if they're gonna die, why shouldn't millions of innocent people join them?

I fairly short order. Or their Armor would quickly overrun the positions. Because they would go thru the North like a hot knife thru butter. The north really has few weapons that could destroy a modern main battle tank. With total air superiority.

The nukes are a problem. But if the North did not use them early I’m not thinking they ever could. Exploding a nuke underground in a research environment is totally different than delivering one ion the battlefield. We know where they are and the only way they have to launch them is by missile. The first thing South Korea would do is render the site untenable. Being underground is not the same now as in the Korean War. We, and I assume South Korea has ground penetrating missiles that could make launching a missile impossible.

But you are correct Seoul would take some real damage before that happened

The only think keeping the North going is China. The North knows this and will not tangle with South Korea.

The worst thing for the north would be our withdrawal along with the South developing good relations with China. China might decide they could live next to a democratic Korea with less trouble than dealing with Kim and his nuts.

is so starved, when the defector that was shot coming across the DMZ, the doctors were shocked at how malnourished and stunted he was. And he was from an elite military unit that would have been fed better than the general army rank and file.

Someone suggested (jokingly) that the way to stop a North Korean invasion, is to throw open all the fast food joints along the DMZ, offering free meals to North Korean soldiers.

At the Seoul Winter Olympics, there were reports of North Korean athletes camping out at the McDonald's in the Olympic Village and almost missing their events.

Also why do pamphlets bother them so much? If it’s such a people’s paradise there no one would believe the pamphlets.

Ratchet up the tensions, then get the Chinese and Russians to come in and broker peace between the two Koreas. Then voila, they all will demand US troops get out and a unified Korea is under the Sino-Russian sphere of influence.
