Trump says he'll leave White House peacefully if Biden wins

Source: The Hill

President Trump said he’ll leave the White House peacefully if he loses this November’s presidential election, addressing concerns he would try to hold onto power after a defeat.

“Certainly, if I don't win, I don't win,” he said in an interview that aired on Fox News Friday, adding that if he lost, he’d “go on, do other things.”

Trump has never given any indication that he would defy the results of an election that showed him losing to former Vice President Joe Biden, though his remarks Friday appear to be the first public comments he’s given on the subject.

Trump still maintained that it would “be a very bad thing for our country” if he lost.

The question is whether Trump will admit Biden won, or if he'll claim it was rigged.

His campaign was a branding exercise. When he won, he looked like someone had died. Afterward, he did comment more than once that he missed his old life and even called the White House a dump. Of course, now he doesn't want to be a loser, so it will be hard for him to let go. Also, he probably has a lot of lawsuits waiting for him when he exits Pennsylvania Ave.

Come Jan 20, 2021, he will be long gone, and/or Pence will have stepped in per Constitution.

Details to be revealed in realtime.

I keep a diary. The next 8 months of entries are going to be the best EVER! Just maybe not for the American people and our Democracy.

...Saying this now, calms many people. This is an attempt to prevent more riots if he loses. Very early to say something like this, but this is really a very positive thing to say. If Trump follows through on this, it may be the only positive thing he has done as president. Leave peacefully and quietly. We will see. If Trump repeats this, it is likely to be true. I don't believe Trump likes the very close analysis of every single thing he does and says. It may have seemed fun for a few months, but my opinion is he is sick of the show and wants a quick and quiet exist. Too much work and very bad publicity. (Yes, I know Trump doesn't work much, but it is still too much for him) Also, Trump is not in very good shape & he knows it. I think he has had enough.

... if he's convinced that he can't cheat his way to re-election and will lose, HE'LL RESIGN before the election. He ALWAYS escapes defeat by walking away from the contest. His lifetime of court battles illustrate who he is. His screaming that he will NEVER settle out of court is predictably followed by his settling out of court. He pays court costs and punitive damages penalties before a court renders him responsible. This is a persistent pattern. And it's what Trumpy-boy will do this year, before the election, if he is convinced that he's going down.

unless I missed it.

Start at 20:42 of the Faulkner interview and watch to the end. Faulkner doesn't ask if he'll leave peacefully, and he doesn't say he'll leave peacefully. He just says "Certainly, if I don't win, I don't win." The "leave peacefully" part and the "no indication" that he won't are editorial comments from the first clip, from The Hill.

He's a con man. The "Certainly" is there to make you think he's agreeing with Faulkner's chortling mockery of Biden's comments that Trump won't leave voluntarily if he loses, while all he really says is a tautology: "if I don't win, I don't win." HE will decide who wins!

I think there's a lot of wishful thinking from The Hill and from some of us in interpreting these comments.

Sat Jun 13, 2020, 10:02 AM

It will be up to the current Congress to declare and administer the results of the national election. If they think they can bend enough of the results their way and see value in keeping Trump empowered they will do that. A con man's power is illusory and depends on a willing audience as much as it does assistants and enablers. If this was a relatively close election and the results could be challenged with any facility I suspect Trump would try to stay, especially if the GOP Governors support him.

His back will be up against the wall from a legal standpoint. Once he leaves the office on Jan. 20, 2021 he'll be vulnerable to legal action and warrants might be served as soon as he touches the ground. We have no way of knowing what has been sealed awaiting that day. I do not imagine they will allow him to use Air Force One to travel beyond legal boundaries to Bahrain or Moscow for instance. Whichever Mar-A-Lago Tower remains of his empire will likely be his next residence. I don't foresee that Vlad Putin will offer him a safe haven either.

Since we know that everything he says is designed to reshape perception to his advantage I take his statement as a knowing lie. As several above have suggested I think he'll do everything he can to screw the electoral process and the voters and I think he will have considerable help with doing it. Putin will help screw things up just to sow chaos here along with attempting to garner favorable results for anyone working with him. The GOP may not have a winning leader inTrump but they can pave an avenue to further their power all the same. Some of them are delusional enough to think they'll get away with it too.

What we need to watch for is all the signs of electoral rigging going on.

TRUMPY-BOY ALWAYS LIES!

Don't believe this pathological liar. He lies about everything.

This reasonable answer to an outlandish question won't stand the test of time. Trumpy will do ANYTHING to win. His critics have it right. He will cheat, steal, lie, and kill to win. He's killing right now by intentionally refusing to focus on saving lives. He's making NO EFFORT to do his job.

Do we know what Trumpy-boy will DO if he lost and will "go on, do other things"? He'll be in court, defending himself against RICO charges that will clean out all of his assets and leave him penniless. Biden's AG will get right to work in late January. Grand juries will be convened, and a Trumpy-boy prosecutorial cottage industry will spring up and prosper.

So Trumpy will do what he always does: lie and cheat to stay a winner. He thinks that he'll keep his critics off-guard if he says the reasonable thing now. But we all know his behavior patterns too well. He lies about everything.

I think he hates being President, honestly. Oh sure, he likes the pomp and circumstance. He likes the "Hail to the Chief" schtick. He likes the bells and whistles. But he hates the actual job of being President. Witness how little work he actually does. He watches Fox News and golfs, apart from occasionally holding a rally.

As others have said, I don't think he wanted or expected to win. He just wanted to raise his public profile for whatever dunderheaded venture he had in mind, and then found out he was going to have to follow through. If he loses to Biden, I think he'll secretly be relieved that the nightmare is over and he can go back to being a reality TV jackwagon. I bet the ink on his Fox News contract has long since dried.

That said, he'll still hem and haw and whine and kvetch if he loses, because that's just who he is and what he does. But when the time comes, I think he'll leave the White House without too much fuss.

His rabid supporters, on the other hand... of them I'm much less certain.
