(26,068 posts)Which is what this seems to be. I've been in a bad relationship with an abusive cop, and it is scary AF, and very difficult to leave. I find her brave and compassionate.
But go ahead and denounce her.

(6,045 posts)About your past abusive relationship...I can only imagine how scary that must be for anyone but for you, like a lot of cops spouses, girlfriends or boyfriends, to caught in an abusive relationship with cop must be as bad as they get.
...And thats why my 1st thoughts, despite being a straight male & thankfully never having to have dealt with that in my life, Im with you my mind jump straight to this woman finally has a chance at freedom!
...Then I scroll down & start to 2nd guess myself???
...Not that I Hope shes an abused woman but if she is doing what the other commenters have suggested then shes just about as scumming as her murdering hubby!
...Of course I dont know them but I would be very surprised if they were even worth enough for such a act of desperation to be worth it after cost of everything shakes out!?!?
Again, so sorry about your past...Hope youve found happier times since.

(26,068 posts)His teeth will be dulled now, and he can't send his buddies after her to harass her everywhere around town, which is what happens whe you try and l3ave a cop. Or, you wind up dead, like most of convicted murderer Drew Peterson's wives.

(13,104 posts)Its not mentioned in her statement or the story about her. If hes capable of murder, however, hes capable of anything.

(15,801 posts)It could be that his being behind bars presents her with the safety to leave. Some abusive types don't take it well when their victims try to flee.
Or not.
But could be.

(2,008 posts)If my googling/years-of-crime-drama-watching is correct:
The accused can object to/prevent their spouse testifying against them.
A spouse can refuse a subpoena to testify against their current spouse.
But neither of those privileges appear to survive past divorce. (The couple must be married at the time of assertion of the privilege, which I presume to mean at the time of the trial/deposition)
There is also a privilege of protected "marital communication" which appears to extend even after divorce (but pertains only to communications during the marriage, and appears to cover only one-to-one communications, not things a spouse overhears.)
I'm sure there's enough complexity there for some lawyers to make some money off of.
ProfessorGAC
(65,010 posts)The ex-wife testified against the defendant in that trial.
We found the guy NG, but she did, in fact testify.
Might be different by state, but in IL there doesn't appear to be any barrier to divorced people testifying against an ex.

Yes, she's probably going to take his money, but that's how divorce works.
This fucking pig deserves every bit of harm that comes his way. In this case, this will be a real quick divorce.
I understand she's a real estate agent.
If she's any good at it, she makes way more fucking money than a cop does.
