COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Chaos erupted in downtown Columbus Thursday night and it spilled over into the early morning hours of Friday.

Hundreds of protesters who gathered in solidarity to show support after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis a few days ago brought handmade signs and bullhorns to the area of N. High St. and Broad St.

Around 9 p.m. after some protesters began to throw bottles, police warned the crowd multiple times before dispersing pepper spray into the crowd.

................................

Police were able to push back protesters from Broad Street and N. High St. to the intersection of N. High St. and State St. where protesters began to break the windows of local businesses, bus stops and even the windows and front doors of the Ohio Statehouse.

Dozens of police officers were involved in this incident including those on the bicycle unit, the mounted unit and SWAT. Officers, wearing their riot gear, began using several crowd control techniques, including flash-bang grenades and pepper spray.

As of early Friday morning, Columbus police had arrested multiple protesters.

Columbus Police Sgt. James Fuqua said the resources that were used to deal with the protest downtown kept officers from responding to other critical incidents including 177 high priority calls for service.

1. Zero sympathy for those people .... when the police tell you to go home you go home. End of story.

A nonviolent protest was going on just 1 block away but some in that crowd were looking
to do damage nothing more and nothing less. You can't block traffic, destroy public and
private property, and not follow lawful orders to disperse. If the police have to arrest them
then I am fine with that. If they come back today the Columbus P.D., the Franklin County
Sheriff's department and the State Highway Patrol will not play with them.

BTW I have put my butt on the line a number of different times to make sure that African
Americans in Columbus, OH get to vote and have their votes counted.

There is somebody coughing loudly during the video. If that person is infected, every cough releases enormous number of viral particles. That spread far.

I'm seeing on line organizing on the Reddit forum- r/Columbus. And on Saturday afternoon.

I will be interested to see if Mikey DeWine mentions this in the next presser

... They will bring in their dogs, horses, water cannons, and buses to take away the ones that they
arrest. From what I have read and seen it looked like more than few were just into violence and
destruction of property and were not about bringing about social change and justice.

* and yes some are red, racist, and with a mean streak too. Even the black and females cops have
no sense of humor when people are throwing stuff @ them.

that RWers are aggressively spreading memes and misinformation to discredit peaceful protesters.

I witnessed a peaceful protest here in DC yesterday in my neighborhood, yet Trumpsters are online claiming there was rioting, vandalism, looting, etc. and there wasn't.

11. The MSM will usually give One Rioter more coverage than 1,000 Peaceful Protesters.

To paraphrase: it may not be good for America but it's good for MSM.
