Monkeys steal coronavirus blood samples in India

LUCKNOW, India (Reuters) - A troop of monkeys in India attacked a medical official and snatched away blood samples of patients who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, authorities said on Friday.
The attack occurred this week when a laboratory technician was walking in the campus of a state-run medical college in Meerut, 460 km (285 miles) north of Lucknow, capital of Uttar Pradesh state.
Monkeys grabbed and fled with the blood samples of four COVID-19 patients who are undergoing treatment ... we had to take their blood samples again, said Dr S. K. Garg, a top official at the college.
Authorities said they were not clear if the monkeys had spilled the blood samples, but people living near the leafy campus feared further spread of the virus if the monkeys carried the samples into residential areas. Garg said it was not clear if the monkeys could contract the coronavirus if they came into contact with infected blood.

(30,613 posts)12 Monkeys, also known as Twelve Monkeys, is a 1995 American science fiction film directed by Terry Gilliam, inspired by Chris Marker's 1962 short film La Jetée, and starring Bruce Willis, Madeleine Stowe, and Brad Pitt, with Christopher Plummer and David Morse in supporting roles. After Universal Studios acquired the rights to remake La Jetée as a full-length film, David and Janet Peoples were hired to write the script.

(32,640 posts)I'm in the final scene in the parking lot at BWI where the Bruce Willis character as a child looks up at the plane - one of the people walking in the parking lot, and I got a $150 bonus because they needed a red car in the shot, and they used mine..
My favorite memory is that at lunch that day, Terry Gilliam sat down at the picnic table with us extras at lunch. We were telling jokes - he laughed at one of mine, and I said, "You know, you've made me laugh countless times in my life. I feel honored to have given you one."
Someone else asked, "Is this movie a comedy?" (We had been told Bruce Willis was the star) He laughed, and said, "Not intentionally."

At first I thought it was lab monkeys and was picturing them watching and learning the lab security protocol and then finding their moment. I saw them muttering "stupid f-ing humans" as they ran off.
I think the world is officially 100% insane now.
