St. Paul police responding to large groups in Midway and elsewhere, reports of looting and rocks

Source: (St. Paul) Pioneer Press

St. Paul police are responding to large groups of people in the Midway, Sun Ray areas and elsewhere on Thursday. Police reported that people broke business windows, and squad cars have been damaged by rocks and bottles being thrown at officers.

Mayor Melvin Carter called on people to stay home.

“Please do not come here to protest,” he tweeted Thursday afternoon. “Please keep the focus on George Floyd, on advancing our movement, and on preventing this from ever happening again. We can all be in that fight together.”

In St. Paul, officers dispatched that people were looting stores during the day on Thursday. Businesses were shut down and windows were broken, including at a pawnshop and Foot Locker in the Midway area, according to emergency radio traffic.
