George Floyd: Police release bodycam footage of arrest

Source: The Independent

A Minneapolis police force has released bodycam footage showing the scene at George Floyd’s arrest amid a second night of protests over the black man’s death.

The Minneapolis Park Police (MPP) video, which was made public on Wednesday night, shows an officer monitoring a vehicle opposite to where Mr Floyd was arrested and pinned to the ground before his death on Monday.

The MPP officer wearing the bodycam also appeared to reassure two passengers from Mr Floyd’s car that an ambulance would arrive at the scene, and told them to “stay put”.

Minneapolis Park Police maintain that despite having one patrol car at the scene, the officer with the bodycam was not involved with the actions that led to Mr Floyd’s death.

an alleged counterfeit $20 bill? I remember seeing six or seven cops who showed up when Eric Garner was detained for supposedly selling loosie cigarettes, which is insane. It would seem that we are over-policed, which is truly frightening and those police are poorly trained and not adequately supervised, not to mention many of them should have never been hired in the first place.

and no mater what Floyd may or may not have done prior to having been pinned in a life threatening manner, he was no longer (if he ever had been) in any position to threaten anyone, on the ground, outnumbered four to one.. It would take a literal moron to not know that kneeling on someone's throat could have serious medical consequences. Doing so for even five seconds is unacceptable. Doing so for any longer is attempted murder, and when death results the charge becomes murder.

The arresting officer's intentions were quite clear. He was trying to inflict pain. He obviously wasn't in any danger he wanted to assert power over Floyd. Such a tough guy, he had a gun and police backup. He was just looking for a reason to hurt someone and I seriously doubt he'd do that to a white suspect.

It appears that the officer also has a racist history. He should have been fired a long time ago.

That was as sadistic as kneeling on his neck. In a different era, I could visualize him being the guy who put the noose on some poor guy's neck. If he was this brazen, surrounded by other people and on camera, what on earth has he done in the past? He seemed far too at ease and comfortable with his cruelty. I'm quite sure, he's done crap like this before and gotten away with it.

10. How many cops does it take to be involved in an excessive force action?

One plus how ever many can get there. One to do the actually damage and the rest
to make sure no one stops the one doing the damage and to share in the experience.

that appears to be the case. A violent cop is probably emboldened by having other cops around him who don't intervene. There may have been cops who disapproved, but there is that whole brotherhood code among a lot of cops, that often gives license to illegal behavior.

Happened here in Wichita when a swat team member gunned down a guy in cold blood. The old "looked like he was reaching inside his waistband."
