GOP Congressman Asks Trump to Stop Spreading 'Unfounded' Joe Scarborough Conspiracy: 'It Will Destroy Us'
BY CHRISTINA ZHAO ON 5/24/20 AT 6:38 PM EDT
Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger of Illinois on Sunday asked President Donald Trump to stop spreading baseless conspiracy theories about Joe Scarborough.
Trump earlier Sunday shared a tweet urging his 80 million followers to read a story shared by conservative publication True Pundit that claims Scarborough, the co-host of MSNBC's Morning Joe program, was involved in the death of 28-year-old Lori Klausutis in 2001.
At the time, Klausutis was working for Scarborough, then a Republican congressman from Florida. Police said they found no evidence of foul play in relation to Klausutis' death. Medical examiners reported that the woman had a heart condition, which caused her to faint and accidentally smack her head on a table.
Trump has revived attention to Klausutis' death almost 20 years later by repeatedly touting unproven conspiracy theories speculating that she was murdered.

(64,413 posts)When he first got elected I thought he was another lying punk.
But, I was wrong about how "tea party" he would be.
I still don't like him, but he's more principled than I expected.

(33,982 posts)Joe Scar is precisely the kind of piece of shit that holds office (senate) in Florida as a Republican.
That said, I think I'll drop future mention of the issue, because A) Trump also finds it useful, and fuck helping him, and B) She wasn't actually an intern, and he wasn't there when it happened.
But Joe Scarborough is still a Republican and a spectacular piece of shit, whether he's attacking Trump these days or not.

(64,413 posts)I'm in that district. We are not downstate. Northeast IL an hour from Chicago.
Also, although I liked neither, both of the last 2 Rs in that seat were not mouth frothing RWNJs.
Prior to that, the district has been modulating between D & R since I was in high school.
The mayor of the biggest city is an independent, and the county board is 5-4 R.
It's an essentially purple district.
Lived here my whole life, although not always in the same town.

(2,944 posts)Kankakee and Joliet were way way out in the boonies. Anything south of I-80 was considered downstate rural farm country.
Someone I was talking to recently referred to Joliet as a Chicago suburb! Things change!

(64,413 posts)I thought he would be, but he's more moderate than I thought.
I live in the district too.
After Weller, who was not a tea party guy, I expected a foaming at the mouth radical.
I don't like him, but he's way less RW than I anticipated.

(30,656 posts)He was right-wing, but Adam is to his right.
I have looked at his voting record. He considers the ACA a failure. He does not meet with anyone who is not a republican who supports his agenda. He had a so-called town hall last year. It was tightly controlled and a farce. He does not listen to his constituents, unless they agree with him already.
Once in a while he throws everyone a bone by going against the republican line. That does not mean I trust him.
ProfessorGAC
(64,413 posts)But, he's not to the right of the Republican party body.
He's big on food & nutrition aid, which is odd for Randian.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like him, but there are many, far worse Rs.
BTW: how did you get Kinzinger? A gerrymandering? In blue Illinois? We don't live that near one another.
Prior rep here was Weller.

(30,656 posts)Have you looked at the 17th District? Our Democrats do it as well.
The 16th was drawn to be red. We were throwing them a bone.
