PHOENIX A North Dakota construction company favored by President Donald Trump has received the largest contract to date to build a section of Trumps signature wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Republican U.S. Sen. Kevin Cramer of North Dakota confirmed the $1.3 billion contract for building the 42-mile section of wall through really tough terrain in the mountains in Arizona. Thats about $30 million per mile.
Cramer said Fisher Sand and Gravel Co. offered the lowest price for the project. He did not know how many companies bid.
Trump has promised to build 450 miles of wall along the border with Mexico by the end of the year. So far, the government has awarded millions of dollars in contracts for construction of 30-foot-tall barriers, along with new lighting, technology and infrastructure. The Trump administration says it has already built 187 miles of wall. Some of it is new, but most is replacing old, much shorter barriers that officials say were not sufficient.

Mr.Bill
(24,104 posts)for Biden to sign one executive order that would rescind every one of them that Trump signed. That would be the best inauguration day ever.

If he had been a fiscal conservative and a Christian, he'd cut Defense by 25% just for CV relief and put the damn wall on hold.
Now he has to rush the wall because he knows he won't win in November.
Maybe President Biden can work with President Carter and incorporate the existing wall sections into Habitat structures.

(9,883 posts)The head of the company, Fisher, went on Fox News fairly often and praised Trump and pitched his company to build the wall. Trump insisted that the contract be given to them in violation of government contracting rules. I think this is the wall that can be cut through in a matter of minutes with a $100 saw that anyone can get at a Home Depot. Trump also insisted that the wall be painted black, adding at least $500 million to $1 billion to the cost and creating an ongoing maintenance nightmare to keep it painted. In the blazing Texas sun, paint deteriorates fairly quickly.

I don't imagine Biden will let this monstrous monument to trump's ego stand. I would certainly like to know if there's a chance of re-purposing these materials into something useful.
