LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Police ticketed three people for cutting hair during a protest outside the Michigan Capitol, where about a dozen barbers and hair stylists defied stay-at-home orders to give free hair cuts Wednesday.

About 350 people were attending the demonstration that was organized by the Michigan Conservative Coalition to protest the orders imposed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Three barbers were cited for disorderly conduct -- engaging in an illegal occupation or business -- after being warned by state police.

The cases were referred to the state attorney general. The penalty is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 90 days in jail, a $500 fine, or both.

that when their FCC broadcast license is in the renew process they will have some explaining to do as helping Freedom Works spread their paid pac message isn't in the public interest.

4 barbers were ticketed and two were detained because they had no ID. Heard this from another reporter doing a live feed from the riot scene.

Write more of them. $500 a pop is good revenue to help cover our deficit.

excessive but when I saw the pictures, saw it as nothing more than a bunch of deplorables being stupid......again. The fines are indeed well deserved.

Were they members of the same family?

Otherwise, all those Michiganers who cut each others' hair are criminals. "Hon, I need a haircut." "You're trying to entrap me! No!"

but in California a Barber or Cosmetologist can not work outside of their shop. They could lose their license for doing so.

giving haircuts on the down low by appt, but when Ben Roethlisberger went to him for a cut and beard trim and then posted a video on social media that included about 30 secs of it, well there went that venture. The shop's now closed.

enforcing the rules with citations, just talking to business owners who might be violating them. Barbershops and hair/nail salons have been closed for months. Not many are willing to risk their state license over serving a few customers. Personally, I think these shops should be allowed to open by appointment because they already sanitize combs, razors, brushes, sweep up hair, etc, but that's not the current rules.
