Trump threatens to withhold Michigan funding over mail-in voting

Source: The Hill

President Trump on Wednesday threatened to withhold federal funding to Michigan after the state's Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D) announced all of the state’s registered voters would receive applications for absentee ballots in the mail this year.

Trump charged that the step was done “illegally” and threatened to withhold funding if the state did not reverse course, suggesting the move would encourage voter fraud.

“Breaking: Michigan sends absentee ballots to 7.7 million people ahead of Primaries and the General Election,” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning. “This was done illegally and without authorization by a rogue Secretary of State. I will ask to hold up funding to Michigan if they want to go down this Voter Fraud path!”

The party must be destroyed completely. Everything must be done to regain the Senate and Whitehouse and begin investigations and hold them accountable for their destructive attack on the most basic right of the people: Unrestricted Voting Rights. The Democrats have to take decisive action and no longer tolerate this anti-democracy party. The Republican Party has become an evil blight that must be demolished.

I only wish we had more outspoken representatives who have the backbone to stand up and call Trump a damn liar. We need Democrat representative to go on national media and challenge Trump and his bootlicking henchmen. The time is past for hand wringing and polite politically correct responses. This nation is in serious jeopardy. What will it take to wakeup the people to the fact that the hierarchy of Republican Party is the enemy and is determined to establish a dictatorship with an alliance with the wealthy plutocrats. The are employing every fascist tactic to achieve their goal while far too many of our representatives don't have the balls to denounce them.

The man is extorting Michiganders.

He is endangering their health.

Doesn’t the GOP always say voting is a state issue? I guess not when it threatens their political fortune. That makes Republicans hypocrites.

These republicans love the digital voting machines. Recount? Click the 'recount' icon on the Diebold machine so that it spits out the same calculation.

Recounting paper ballots mailed in with real signatures is an entirely different thing. It's called democracy.

I think there were earlier reports that Ivanka or her siblings were involved with voting machines - China granted her a trademark for them or something.

Maybe not using these machines is what is upsetting Trump because it makes it harder for them to steal Michigan. .... ??

If anything, this MI move may drive more states to do the same and skip the rigged voting machines. NC is a great test case yet the R-Scum dominated state may stymie any mail-in vote.

He's driving many more people away from him and the Republican Party. His threats are also escalating now. If he loses the election, which he will, expect him to stop using the fed to prop up the markets , and hurt the markets intentionally claiming its because Democrats got voted into power is the reason, which everyone knows is another lie from trump. He will use his powers to hurt us all for his loss any way he can, even his supporters. Just like with this virus, he cares nothing about people dying, and it's only about himself, and winning and money.

My county has a text/phone alert system you can sign up for. They text you when they mail your ballot so you know it's on the way, and they text you when they receive it back at the Clerk's office. You can mail your ballot, or you can drop it off at any County Clerk's office and we have ballot drop off boxes at places like the Public Library. Voter signatures are on file and you have to sign your ballot envelope. We can also register to vote online at at the DMV.

Who the hell votes for people who want to make voting more difficult? I'll tell you who. People who don't really believe in representative government. IOW, republicans.

The notion that he didn't lose when he loses in November. You can see it all coming a mile away. He will have to be dragged from the White House. The problem is, he'll find one Red State governor who wont allow the SS to certify the vote.

Country's over folks. Bet on it. He's not making this nonsense argument to slink back to private life with potential indictments hanging over his head. He is dead set on refusing to leave over this fake "fraud" argument. I used to laugh at this notion. Now I am 100% certain its what he will do when he loses and McConnell will stand there with his deer in the headlights look and act like nothing is wrong.

You know that, though.

Of course, Trump cannot actually withhold anything on this basis, but that's not the point. He's actually signaling that Michigan's vote will be "illegitimate" in his view, rigged. In other words, even Griftmaster General Parscuale has told Trump that Michigan is lost for good, ain't nothing nobody can do about it. So, if it can't be won, it must be delegitimized. The story of every autocrat.
