Republican attorneys general back Barr's bid to drop case against Flynn
Source: The Guardian
Fifteen Republican state attorneys general have filed a legal brief telling a federal judge they support the justice departments attempt to drop its case against the former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
The move comes after almost 2,000 former justice department figures condemned the move to drop the case.
Flynn, a retired general, was fired by Trump for lying to the vice-president about conversations with the Russian ambassador. He pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.
Obama administration requests to unmask Flynn, as an American speaking to surveilled foreign nationals during the investigation of Russian election interference, a routine intelligence practice, are at the heart of Donald Trumps attempts to create a scandal, the so-called Obamagate, to ensnare his predecessor and his challenger at the polls this year, former vice-president Joe Biden.

(10,831 posts)A mix of 2000+ GOP/RNC people says Flynn should be held accountable, while 15 purely GOP AGs says he should go scot free. That should send an interesting message to the judge.

People who work within the DOJ, by definition, do not have political positions.
I can't imagine being this judge and having to literally "facepalm" at this nonsense from the GOP. The worst part is, these State AG's couldn't possibly know the actual details on the Flynn case. That an he mothertrucking plead guilty to protect his son.

(2,541 posts)That civilization is going to end soon? It is one thing for a political party to push the envelope of precedent, processes, decency etc. but over the last 3+ yrs the GOP has just obliterated these things and gone full court press to get what they want and to hell with everything else, the country, its citizens, the environment, rule of law... everything.
They either know they are never going to loose power of a Senate majority and the WH or they think the end is near. These are the only two reason I can see for the blatant criminal activity they have done. If Dems win the Senate and keep the House (which the GOP cannot afford to let happen) it is game over for the GOP. Real investigations will devastate the current party. Even with all of the new judges the GOP has installed there is only so much wiggle room that judges can play with in a decision. At some point the GOP will be in the minority unless elections are fixed or civilization is coming to an end, how the GOP thinks they will survive the shift in power I dont understand. How they ever expect to be taken seriously DT is gone is confounding.

(1,977 posts)There are, at minimum, a dozen things like this that the GOP has done which would make one conclude they must think the world is coming to an end. I don't mean simple issues of "political differences"; I mean this crazy town nonsense that a GOP majority 20 years ago would have removed a GOP POTUS over. They have no credibility left at all regarding "rule of law" and whatnot.
