Trump officials deflect blame for US death toll, escalate reopening push
Source: cnn
(CNN)Two of President Donald Trump's top officials are now pointing the finger at the administration's own scientists and Americans' pre-existing health conditions to explain the country's world-leading Covid-19 death toll.
Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar suggested Sunday that underlying health conditions, including among minorities, were one reason for the high American death toll -- nearly 90,000 as of Sunday evening. And Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro added the government's own Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to its list of scapegoats alongside China and the Obama administration.
The White House has been escalating its effort to recast the narrative of its own chaotic response to the crisis as it aggressively pushes to reopen the country, a process vital to the fortunes of millions of people who have lost their jobs in lockdowns and its own political prospects in November.
The effort follows Trump's repeated early denials that the virus would be a problem for the United States and claims that his administration had it under control months ago.
The United States accounts for about 4.25% of the world's population, but currently has about 29% of the confirmed deaths from the disease, and models used by the White House suggest the tragic toll could rise to around 147,000 by early August.

(70,447 posts)... fired her. China (they are not blameless) isolated the virus and sequenced its genome in Nov. or Dec. of
2019 and turned that info over to the W.H.O. and they sent "that stuff" onto scientists in Germany and
they made a perfectly good C-19 test kit that has worked all over the world but Trump rejected that test
kit so he and Kushner could invest in their own testing operations and those kits failed miserably. We are
in this world of shit because Trump and Kush-turd wanted to make money on the pandemic.
Lying motherfuckers. And what are we at now 90,000 dead and 1.5 million cases of C-19?
Trump and company knew of C-19 in November of 2019.

I hope I'm wrong but the death toll here and world wide might very well be in the 10s
of millions with hundreds of millions getting the disease which if it doesn't kill you can
take years off your life.

His family and the coterie of jackals who support and enable him resemble an awful caricature of grade c horror film villainy made all the more terrible by their genuine inhumanity and willful contempt for life.
There once was a trial held at Nuremberg in which people who enabled and organized the terrible dreams of Hitler into real events were held accountable. While I do not look forward to the recounting of their crimes such a day cannot come soon enough to stop the madness and the pain he has wrought. May all who sail in him sink slowly and without mercy.

That's why you work TWICE AS HARD when a potentially fatal pandemic is on the horizon. You pull out all the stops to protect your citizens. It's not an excuse when it's a well known condition.
Oh, and it's also why you don't gut the ACA.

(38 posts)Yeah, because no other country in the world has a notable proportion of its residents with pre-existing and underlying health conditions.
The Conservative government in Britain have been as good as trying to set up a similar scenario themselves to shift blame onto certain scientists (as well as others) that have been giving their expertise on dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak there with their politicians and supporters back in March & April parroting the line "we're being guided by the science" to promote their containment polocies - but once it was found out that this apparent group of experts included the Prime Minister's senior advisor, who was essentially at these meetings to put pressure on these otherwise apolitical experts in their field to get them to conform with his and the wider government policy on dealing with the pandemic, a group whose names were originally not placed in public for bullsh*t reasons concerning pressure from outside influences (instead the pressure was from the inside), that line for Boris Johnson and company to line up these scientific advisers as fall guys for the incoming sh*tshow that was going to follow soon got exposed. That still hasn't stopped them still looking for scapegoats to blame anyone but themselves for what they've done. And the Drumpf Administration have been going by a very similar playbook, just with a more bombastic tone and a higher level of delusion being presented.
The message to Drumpf and associates is the same as that for the British Government - own your shit.
