Elizabeth Warren is the favored VP pick among Democrats, poll shows

Source: Vox

Warren ranks above Kamala Harris, Amy Klobuchar, and Stacey Abrams as a preferred running mate for Joe Biden.

By Emily Stewartemily.stewart@vox.com May 1, 2020, 8:30am EDT

Sen. Elizabeth Warren may not be the likeliest vice-presidential pick for Joe Biden, but she’s emerging as the running mate Democratic voters would prefer most — and who they believe would be best for the job.

In a Data for Progress poll shared exclusively with Vox, the Massachusetts senator ranked first as the vice-presidential candidate likely Democratic voters think is most ready to be president and would be best at handling the coronavirus pandemic and implementing policies, including those that benefit working-class people.

Forty-two percent of poll respondents said they believe Warren is most ready to be president, followed by Sen. Kamala Harris at 15 percent, Sen. Amy Klobuchar at 9 percent, former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams at 7 percent, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer at 4 percent, and Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto at 3 percent. Nearly 20 percent of respondents said they didn’t know. Warren ranks significantly better than the other candidates surveyed across gender, age, and education. But among black voters, she is basically tied with Harris and Abrams.

Warren outpolled the other potential contenders on nearly every measure. She’s the most preferred vice presidential candidate, with 31 percent support, and the pick Democrats are likeliest to say would make them more inclined to vote for Biden. It is also worth noting that Warren is among the vice presidential contenders with the highest name identification among voters — she ran for president for longer than most of the 2020 field, and she’s a famous figure

That's the only concern I have with Biden selecting Sen. Warren. I think she'd be brilliant as the VP, but I will be happy for her to work the domestic policy within the Senate.

Her seat will be filled by a special election. The Governor no longer appoints in MA.

But the special election would have to occur....when? After she is picked or after she is sworn in in January 2021? I like Gov. Baker, but he'd be under a lot of pressure to slow walk a special election.

which is how we got Senator Warren. I can't understand why people think depleting the Senate is a good idea. Especially one with the communication skills, and intellect as she.

If it has changed back to an appointment...let me know. Now the Governor would be able to replace an interim person until the special election. If that's the case he will appoint a less controversial/moderate republican in an effort to save the seat for his party. The State Democratic Party will have to provide a great deal of support to the Democratic candidate but my guess is that although not a slam dunk the Democrat will win.

However her attention to detail and ability to provide clear and concise plans for multiple issues would provide great value to a White House that could only benefit from that type of clarity and communication.

vote for Biden no matter who the Veep candidate is.

It does say something about making Democrats more inclined to vote for Biden, but what kind of Democrat isn't already inclined to vote for Biden? Are they the ones whose asses we now must kiss?

And how many of those exist anyway? Whoever they are, I don't trust the skeezy fuckers, and I would not waste the VP's office on them.

No, I would want the VP candidate to help bridge the gap between the bulk of the party and those Independents and Republicans who are looking for something better than Trump. The ones who can admit their gamble on the Orange Wankspittle was one huge waste and want to correct their mistake.

The key block this year is middle of the road suburban and career women, who have grown violently disgusted with the cheap thug, and the Senator from Minnesota might have been constructed to plan for appeal to such a constituency.

immediately to mind, but who would appeal to the midwest and other areas we don't often hear from, and who vote in large numbers.

And another superb qualification for Senator Amy is that she has spent years in Congress building strong bridges and negotiating complex deals. This is a skill the White House will find extremely useful when undoing the harm trump has done.

Also, I have a fair amount of republican friends who will not vote for Trump. I have heard their opinions regarding Biden’s running mate, and they all lean toward AK as their choice. Dems will vote for our candidate regardless the VP, but I think the vetting team will give consideration to the opinion of republican voters who are apt to go rogue.

Costs the Democrats one Senate seat (at least temporarily). Besides, Biden already wins Massachusetts. He should pick a VP from a battleground state to get a few extra points from the VPs home state advantage. He should also pick someone much younger, to groom as a possible successor in 4 or 8 years.

I know he would like a woman VP, so maybe "that woman from Michigan." (Full disclosure: I'm from Michigan.)

They have this election, if one is even held, under more control than in 2016. It is a fucking charade. Putin himself could run instead of trump and win.
