The second-biggest one was financial: in the first season, they didn't have as much money as they needed. Getting rid of the minor Swampman was a quick way to save some cash.

Probably the real reason they got rid of him was they'd run out of acceptable jokes involving an African-American actor, especially one whose nickname was Spearchucker. Regardless of how they got around that (the story line is that he threw the javelin in college), it's a well-known racial slur.

In the movie he played Corporal Judson, the base's communications man. During the Last Supper sequence, he sang "Suicide is Painless" to Captain Waldowski.

In the TV show, he played Spearchucker Jones for a few episodes, until the producers needed to cut the budget and decided they had run out of acceptable jokes involving him.

Strangely enough, the series never shows him playing football - which is the whole reason they brought the character into the movie in the first place.

... I guess they were writing to reflect what was acceptable at the time.

She'd be surprised that so-and-so had died. Seemed like everybody in films and that she had listened to as a teenager were wrapping up their lives.

Wondered what that was like, and how it was that all those old people mattered to her. She was in her 50s, and it continued for a decade or more.

I get it now.

(To say "Baltimore" in front of that name is to remind older Baltimoreans of the great betrayal.)

I will not root for the Colts.

Irsay moving in the middle of the night, was a huge betrayal to the Baltimore Colts fans.
And I liked the Baltimore Colts.
