Mexican protesters try to block Americans from entering their country on Arizona border

How quickly things change. Americans trying to enter Mexico as the coronavirus strikes the United States were barred from doing so by protesters who don’t want their germs.

According to the Arizona Republic, protesters on the Mexican side of the border blocked all Mexico-bound lanes in Ambos Nogales. The protesters were demanding that there be greater screenings of anyone trying to cross into Mexico given the growing number of infected people in the United States.

“Less than a dozen people wearing face masks and carrying signs used two of their vehicles for a blockade of the two southbound lanes at the DeConcini crossing, several hundred feet into the Mexican side of the border, video taken by Mexican media showed,” the Republican reported.

Some protest signs read “stay at home” while others called on leaders to do more to control and restrict Americans from spreading COVID-19 in Mexico. There didn’t seem to be any signs asking for a wall, however.

Watched that movie a few days ago. As the ice age moved south, Americans were storming the Rio Grand border like World War Z Zombies. No walls blocking them in the movie. Lock em up. Not because of the irony of Americans fleeing to Mexico, but at the total lack of credulity that Mexico would accept millions, or even thousands, of American refugees. They would not want such a disruption of their lives, economy, housing and food needs, etc.

Then to make it even less credible, the reason given for Mexican acceptance of US refugees was that the US had forgiven Mexico's monitory debt to the US. As if the US was in any bargaining position at that time. After all, the US no longer existed at that point and had no power to collect on any debts, so forgiveness of a debt was pointless. "Ay, greeengos. Mehico owes you noteeng. Ees you que owes Mehico ahorra."

and it is spreading through communities. They are a few days to weeks behind us but it will become an emergency there soon.

At least it's supposed to be. I'm not sure how well it's being enforced. But as we have learned in this country, once community spread starts the virus will take hold in spite of border controls. But I agree that even though in a sense it's too late, border closures are justified.
