HHS secretary rebukes Trump plan to close southern border: 'Not one of the highest priorities'

Health and Human Service Secretary Alex Azar threw cold water on President Donald Trumps proposal to close the Mexico border as a measure against the coronavirus.
In an interview on CBS News, host Margaret Brennan asked Azar about the presidents statement that hes strongly considering a closure of the southern border.
Thats not one of the highest priority areas, Azar admitted. Mexico only has a couple of cases.
What the president is making clear, though, is well always be looking at travel restrictions, border protections, he continued. We will take whatever measures are appropriate and necessary to protext the American people.

Any excuse is exactly right. This excuse is even more lame than the others.

(15,805 posts)in air and sea ports who come from affected countries. Not even a cursory check for temperatures or sneezing and coughing. If everyone is just freely allowed to go walking out of the facilities, there's no telling how rapidly the virus will spread.
These basic precautions were in place during previous disease outbreaks, but Trump seems blissfully unconcerned about the risks. He's more focused on fluffing up the stock market to enrich himself and his deathly pals than public health.
