Oregon coronavirus case shuts Lake Oswego elementary school

Source: The Oregonian

A Lake Oswego elementary school employee contracted Oregon’s first apparent case of coronavirus, causing the closure of the 430-student school as health officials try to figure out how many people may have been exposed.

The employee lives in Washington County and is isolated at Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center in Hillsboro in what state health officials described Friday as another case of an unexplained transmission of the disease.

The patient hadn’t been under monitoring for coronavirus symptoms and doesn’t appear to have traveled to any of the countries with outbreaks of the disease or have associated with anyone who did, Oregon Health Authority officials said.

That means the person could have caught the disease from someone in the community.

This was one consideration that terrified me. I've studied virology, micro-biology, epidemiology and transmission vectors, because of requirements when I was with PHS (U S Public Health Service). We've been hearing about people who have contracted it that did not travel anywhere or have contact with those who have. For those people, that means there can be only one transmission vector responsible for their infection ------ It's gone airborne.

NOW the shit has really hit the fan.

Educate yourselves now on disease prevention. WASH YOUR HANDS. A LOT. It is the first line of protection.

And CALL your members of Congress and DEMAND that accurate, appropriate medical information be disseminated from the CDC/NIH/NIAID and not the whores of the trump administration. We are at a point where we MUST be told the truth here. I don't give a fuck what the stock market does right now. It is not more important than human lives.

Act now.

Up until the last few days, indications were it was NOT airborne. Now, I think we need to consider it might be

However, could it be a false positive?

The person works at an elementary school in the Lake Oswego School District, and state officials think it’s likely that teachers and students there have been exposed to coronavirus.

Officials said the patient recently visited Forest Hills Elementary School in Lake Oswego, a Portland suburb,...
The patient began experiencing symptoms Feb. 19, & officials said the Oregon State Public Health Lab tested a sample Friday w/ a test kit it received from CDC Feb.26

You’ll probably be able to find Clorox (Costco was out of the multi packs of Clorox wipes).

Masks I doubt you’ll find. N95 I think is what you want, though all the public health folks are saying it’s best just to wash your hands.

The local Fred’s has been out of nitrile gloves all week. Costco still had some.

I'm late.

Guess it's time to order in some canned soup and stuff. At least it won't affect drinking water or electricity. Will it?

I went to the Costco closest to lake oswego (because that’s the one I live near). I’m guessing that a few folks were panicking last night.

Basic utilities should be fine. It’s prudent to stock up n some non perishable food and a few cleaning supplies.
