Senate passes Iran War Powers resolution despite Trump's opposition

Source: CNN

Washington (CNN)The Senate passed an Iran War Powers resolution on Thursday, a rare measure that was approved with bipartisan support despite the fact that it has been opposed by President Donald Trump and aims to rein in his ability to use military action against Iran without congressional approval.

The vote was 55-45. Eight Republicans voted in favor of it: Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, Todd Young of Indiana, Mike Lee of Utah, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine, Rand Paul of Kentucky, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana and Jerry Moran of Kansas.

The President warned the Senate not to green-light the measure on Wednesday, tweeting that "it is very important for our country's security that the United States Senate not vote for the Iran War Powers Resolution," and adding, "If my hands were tied, Iran would have a field day."

The White House has also issued a veto threat against it.

OK, a muted woohoo since it lets traitor tot start wars, but limits how long troops can be deployed. He really doesn't care as long as he gets to start a war out of general resentment or because ordered to by PUtin. He has no attention span to think about long term anyway. With this assmouth, everything is immediate and transactional and not even thought of beyond his personal profit.

because that needs to be reined in already. Enough is enough.

Business Insider has reported that the AUMF has been used to allow military deployment in Afghanistan, the Philippines, Georgia, Yemen, Djibouti, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Iraq, and Somalia.

I'll bet Trump will not sign any bill that restricts his ability to do whatever the hell he wants.

You can't change the most important vote you have taken since 2016. You all were wrong, Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, Todd Young of Indiana, Mike Lee of Utah, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine, Rand Paul of Kentucky, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana and Jerry Moran of Kansas.

He hasn't learned a damn thing! Except that he is free to do whatever the hell he wants.

Even Trump supporters do not want another war, and Republicans know that if Trump starts a war that no one supports, they could lose some elections.

that Trump learned his lesson after his last Persian misadventure and he doesn't want anything to do with a country that can hit back? So the resolution is symbolic?

Senate needs a Veto-proof supermajority vote. Veto-proof ain't gonna happen in the House nor Senate when Trump Veto this Bill and send back to Congress. So, this is nothing but theatrics.
