Deval Patrick ends longshot presidential bid
Source: Politico
Former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick ended his presidential bid Wednesday, exiting the Democratic primary after his late-start campaign failed to gain traction in New Hampshire's primary.
Patrick, who only entered the presidential race last November, failed to crack one percent in Tuesday's New Hampshire primary, finishing only ahead of fellow longshot candidate Sen. Michael Bennet.
The vote in New Hampshire last night was not enough for us to create the practical wind at the campaigns back to go on to the next round of voting, Patrick said in an email to supporters. So I have decided to suspend the campaign, effective immediately.
The former Massachusetts governor had staked his candidacy on a strong showing in neighboring New Hampshire. But Patrick struggled to get the kind of media attention needed to jump-start his longshot bid, falling well short of Democratic National Committee thresholds to qualify for a debate stage and running a barebones operation.

(42,862 posts)Was his heart really in the game? Did he want to run, or was he convinced to? For some reason (I don't know why) I just got the feeling that he was reluctant every step of the way, and that his late entry into the race was a more accurate indicator of how important it was to him, or how urgently he felt the need to be considered. I don't doubt his sincerity, it just seems to me that he was trying to meet someone else's expectations rather than his own.

(786 posts)Deval was a worthless governor. He failed utterly to do any infrastructure improvements. Manhole covers are now sunk to a foot below street level. The sewer lines must be fixed.
He turned a blind eye to the enormous corruption in the state police. The cops stole more than $45 million from the taxpayers, Deval looked the other way, maybe even profited from the scams.
