Mike Moon introduced bill that would redefine fertilized egg as a person and effectively turn any attempt to terminate a pregnancy into murder. A Missouri state representative who once beheaded a chicken on Facebook to make a point about abortion wants police officers to stop women from terminating pregnancies.
Mike Moon, a Republican Missouri state representative, introduced a bill he calls the Right to Due Process Act, which redefines a fertilized egg as a person with all the constitutional rights of any other citizen. The suggested law then requires police and the courts to affirmatively enforce the Missouri constitutions due process clause which guarantees legal rights to people, effectively turning any attempt to terminate a pregnancy into murder.
Moon also filed a bill to abolish abortion in Missouri, and specifically cites murder by abortion. The law makes no exemptions for rape, incest or apparently for women who have pregnancies which are not viable and potentially fatal, since the proposals strike references to abortion exemptions for maternal health.
His bill did not lay out how, exactly, law enforcement would affirmatively enforce such a provision. But a frequent collaborator of Moons, the state representative Ben Baker, said the legal focus was right to be on conferring rights to fetuses...

Abortion is legal in all 50 US states because of the landmark 1973 US supreme court decision Roe v Wade. While the decision is imperiled by an abortion case scheduled to come before the court in March, it remains in force across the country.
Both Moons bills are long-shots.

(815 posts)Then the state troopers could issue a citation to prove that they have not conceived. All the women would be required to get a pregnancy test and send the results in. If they don't comply, they could be arrested and thrown in jail. If they have gotten pregnant and don't give birth in 9 months, they would be arrested and thrown in jail for life.
See? There is always a solution.

(275 posts)If you throw a pregnant woman in jail, you are also imprisoning the person inside, without the benefit of due process or trial.
This would be wrongful imprisonment.
If this law were to pass no pregnant woman could be jail, or fly on a plane/train/bus without buying two tickets, or ride in the front seat of a car, or ...
So many second and third order effects.

(10,072 posts)"Planned Parenthood has partnered with Gynuity Health Projects, a research organization, to study the impact of TelAbortion. A TelAbortion involves all the same steps and procedures as an in-person medication abortion, but you don't have to travel to a health center for your abortion. Instead, an abortion provider conducts a video evaluation via a private and secure video connection. All the necessary tests are done at medical facilities close to your home. The abortion pills are then sent to you by mail."

The religiously insane are never going to be able to stop safe abortions because all you need are a few pills. It's crazy to think their ridiculous religious agenda is going to stop women from controlling their own lives. Idiot christians trying to force their religious lies onto everyone.

They believe (or argue) that birth control in and of itself interrupts the life cycle. In other words, copulation itself is the act of creation, if one takes it to the exquisite Swiftian conclusion. They seek to deny women dominion over their own bodies in servitude of the male dominance and to protect their precious swimmers in the vagina.
If I had daughters or granddaughters (and granddaughters would be more accurate), I would tell them to make decisions very early (in their teens, frankly) about whether or not they want to have a child and to make a permanent surgical choice to be sterilized, whether they need to leave the state or country to do so. At the rate we're going in this fucked up country with these so-called *men* running things, women will have absolutely no fucking rights left. They will be returned to the period before the Nineteenth Amendment, and well before women were allowed to buy and sell property and own it in their own right - without the *permission* of some male family member. All the while these so-called *men* making the laws, want to infantilize women so they can be returned to nothing but a chattel class of humans, owned and enslaved by males.
God I'm beginning to hate the male populace.

(10,072 posts)Some of us want grown adults as partners. Not slaves and children to boss around or abuse. It is so much better to have an equal in a relationship than to force someone into infantalism by taking away their decision making ability.
I hope your prediction does not come true but I fear that it might.

(2,585 posts)it gives the whole Male brand a bad name and leaves a bad taste in the mouths of so many.
I realize too, of course, that there are plenty of women who believe this calamitously wrongheaded thing. They use their *religion* as a cudgel against other people who do not ascribe to the same beliefs. These authoritarian-types cannot abide others acting or believing other that their values - even those these *values* are not authentically theirs, but those set forth by some institutionalized body whatever its name or set of operating rules of the road are.

(2,585 posts)Seriously, what the hell has happened these cretins. What trauma happened to them or what type of psychosexual deviance must they be inflicted with? Why can't *men* allow women to have personal agency and make decisions about their own bodies, their own decisions, life choices, and then be responsible personally for those decisions and the consequences? Why must so many *men* want to have dominion and ownership of women - who, by the way, actually outnumber them?

(4,969 posts)Begs considering the questions that trip up some ardent anti-abortion folks by asking them, whos going to jail? The doctors? The women?
Is a favorite crack in the logic, as I can point out that its been shown that banning abortion doesnt decrease the number of abortions.* Then go on to say that the prisons will be even more crowded. This is a stumper of a problem in some evangelical circles - they havent been lead to think ahead about what theyre actually supporting. Police enforcement is only a facet of the same line of questions, and can cause their emotional swing of support to breakdown a little.

(26,231 posts)A Missouri state representative beheaded a live chicken in a Facebook video explaining his latest anti-abortion bill.
In the video, which is extremely low quality, Missouri Republican Mike Moon cuts the head off of a chicken and cleans the guts out of the animal as he talks about God giving man dominion over life.
As he continues to pluck the feathers and heart out of the chicken, Moon says:
I think we need to get to the heart of the matter here, Moon says, holding the chicken heart. So today, Im filing a bill that will lead to the stopping of abortion in the state of Missouri and I hope youll support it.
